Had my Tubes Tied Yesterday...(may be TMI)

DH just had it today and so far he hasn't even needed a tylenol. Really he said it was nothing. They don't even need stiches taken out. The whole procedure was less than 30 min. and he just had a local anestesia (sp?). I 'm so grateful he did it. After all we had to do child birth. My feeling was that was the least he could do. Def. tell you DH to do it. My OB suggested my DH do it- it's much easier on the man.

A vasectomy also has lower incidence of complications, lower failure rate, is easier to reverse, and costs a heck of a lot less money (vasectomy is an in-office procedure with a local anesthetic, tubal is performed out-patient at the hospital under sedation).

But, if you just can't get your DH to do the vasectomy, the tubal isn't that bad.

I'm nervous to ask dh about the vasectomy. I'll have to find a creative way to bring up the topic.

I had it done when my youngest was born so no extra hospital stay and they just did a spinal. In fact they did the spinal earlier in labor because they said with the tubal it was a definite. I was surprised at the pain, didn't really expect it since you hear it talked about as minor. It wasn't bad and might have been a little worse since I'd also given birth at the same time. I did tell my sister that has had c-sections I had a new appreciation for her recovery process.

DH said that it really wasn't bad at all. He recuperated in a day or so with very little discomfort.

My doctor actually suggested it to DH when our DD was born. I was going to have my tubes tied, but when the doctor came in to see me, out of the blue he told us that he'd do what we said but that DH already had two children (previous marriage) and this was my only one. He told DH that he could die young, and he didn't think it was fair to me to be the one to have it done. DH agreed and that was that.

I do know that there are some people in our area who had no insurance who have gone through the health department and gotten theirs done free. I know that DH's was covered by insurance, but I don't remember the cost.

Sorry you had to go through that. DH just had a vasectomy today. Guess I should go thank him again. Really - it was a piece of cake for him.

It's sad but I know it was the right decision. We are getting old.

About 12 hours and I wouldn't really call it "pain." It was just more general soreness. I think my DH feels worse after the dentist!

Yes, it's is usually done right in a doctor's office. I was in the room when they did my DH's procedures. The procedure itself took about 10 minutes. We were probably at the office no longer than 30 minutes.

The cost to the insurance company was probably about $500 and we paid all of $70.

Also, for those of you who had the tubal done immediately after childbirth--did your GYN's tell you that the risk for pregnancy was higher? When I was discussing this with two of my OB/GYN's, they said that they preferred to wait 6 weeks after childbirth to do the tubal because the failure rate was much better. Apparently when it is done right after childbirth, there is a higher incident of getting pregnant afteward!!! Of course, they would have done it either way, but they preferred to wait.

tubal done with second csection was a breeze. Just a few minutes extra in the operating room. So glad I did that.

We were at the office an hour and DH said he waited for the doctor half of that time back in the room. Yep- in and out and a $15 co-pay. He is feeling fine today. His fear was I hope it still works after. This morning he said I can tell it's going to still work - if you get my drift.

DH insisted he be the one to do something. We put a bag of frozen pea's on "the area" off and on the first 24 hours (I insisted). He needed NO pain med, no tylenol etc.! It was really no big deal at all. MUCH easier than what I would have gone through. OP-Get that bell or a horn and use it!

I hope you're feeling better soon, relax and pamper yourself, you deserve it.

A friend of mine had this procedure done and had major bleeding hours after, real scary, but she went back to the dr and they did whatever they did and she was ok after that, but that was way too scary for me, especially since I bled heavily after having both of my kids from such rapid births.

My DH will not have a choice in the matter...either get it done or he's done until he does I keep reminding him that day will be coming sooner than he thinks

What is it about men and their "goods" anyway? Like our "areas" aren't sacred to us either? I mean we give of them to bear our children and don't complain about it...geesh men, just to do it for you're woman, we've done the hardest part for you

I Never heard that from the midwife or OB. I had mine with the epid. just tanked up an hour after birth. I really wasn't in any more pain than with the other 2 births besides the area that they kept poking me to see if the epid. was back up to speed, since one side had worn off.
