Had a great week at Ft Wilderness.....but

I make a statement about being able to get BOTH sides of the political spectrum on WDW cable, and what do I read in response....ignorance. I don't want to turn this fine blog into a political soundboard, so I won't respond any further to insipid comments.

Enjoy the park, TV is secondary

Disney is owned by ABC so it has no inherent interest in pushing a NBC owned or CNN family station over Fox News. Cable systems have to pay a fee to carry any station; it could well be that Fox charges a higher rate for Fox News as opposed to MSNBC or CNN since Fox News garners higher ratings and Disney is omitting it to save money since it is well aware that most visitors don't care what's on the TV. Disney in general tries to 'encourage' people to get out of their resort rooms and spend money; they have very limited cable offerings and they don't really have comfortable seating areas in any of their resort rooms below the home away from home or DVC level.

Huh, thought Disney owned ABC, not the other way around.

Regardless, if the OP wanted to watch it and the parent company of ABC failed to deliver, one slightly less than satisfied customer.

Leave your politics at the door, all sides, but leave the censorship too.

Disney does own ABC and ESPN.

Probably a carriage dispute. Fox probably wanted more money then Disney wanted to pay for the channel so Fox told them they could no longer carry or broadcast it. It happens at all cable/sat companies. In fact we lost Fuse last month because of a dispute and the contract ran out.

If I would have known how my post was going to rile people, I wouldn't have written it. Sorry for any inconvenience. Let's all put it to rest.

No need for the sorry, I enjoy the back and forth jabbing.

That being said, the cable at Disney is a little behind the times. That also being said the only time Im watching it is waiting for the shower or while powering down from an exciting day!

There's no need to apologize. It's a legitimate question that was actually featured on the O'Reilly Factor last month. And definitely one I've asked since WDW does carry the local Fox affiliate. The cost of the contract Marshel and Nayan cited may be the real reason, considering the Fox News Channel has been #1 in Cable News for 10 years (mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/31/fox-news-marks-a-decade-at-no-1-in-cable-news/). Not being political; just stating facts.

Nonetheless, people should have a choice in which news networks get their viewership when relaxing after a long day at the parks. That's why I love satellite!

Probably just protecting the kiddies from the ignorant fear and hate network.

Ah, the one post wonder.
Starting to think the fanatics on each side of the political debates are screwing it up for the rest of us normal people. Give it a rest, getting views from various sources and making up your own mind is the sign of an open mind. Not the locked up, my way or the highway minds all too prevalent on both sides of the political landscape these days.

Just returned from 9 wonderful days at the Wilderness Campground in our 5th Wheel. Fantastic weather, great cycling...the only disappointment was the absence of FoxNews on their cable. I read on this blog a few weeks ago that FoxNews was included in the WDW Resort Cable selection as of the first of the year...but unfortunately, the only stations that I saw were all the left wing media outlets, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, etc etc., just like the last time we were there. Oh well....:confused3

(The bolding is mine.)

If you hadn't used the bolded phrase above, it wouldn't have even crossed my radar. Perhaps you could have just stated, "the only stations that I saw were NBC, MSNBC, CNN...." and left the political commentary out to begin with. On a message board, political terms tend to inflame people regardless of the innocence of intent.

I'm not riled, just trying to offer a helpful criticism for future postings. :goodvibes

I was told last week while at the Fort that they were going to Direct TV on the 1st of Feb, but that did not happen before we left on the second.:confused3

Why did you create a fake user name to say this? Why not say what you've got to say and stand behind your words. Why hide? You obviously wanted to bash FOX, but you don't want anyone to know it's you doing the bashing. Why is that?

The real pity is that what purports to be "news" is so slanted both by the actual reporting as well as the stories that arent reported, by ALL the media sources, and is still regarded as news instead of thinly veiled opinion.

Seems like opinion shows used to be well defined from news broadcasts. The days of a truly neutral media reporting facts without slant are long gone
