Did you get your children vaccinated against H1N1? The school is having a clinic today and I am still on the fence.

Both DD4 and I got sick with H1N1 during Halloween time...everyone in our little town did...it came through like the plague...even after we had it, we still got the H1N1 vacc at our public health for free just to be safe. She got the nasal, I got the shot...no big deal. No side effects either...

We did not but I wish we would have. DS got H1N1 last month. His pedi gave me a stern talking to for not having DS get it. DH and I got H1N1 after DS got it. I will defnitely get it next year.

I'm assuming your in NJ based on your name. I too am in NJ and took my kids to the H1N1 clinic held at their school. Both kids did fine, they had some really great people doing the shots. What surprised me was that they didn't charge for the shots! Also, if any of your kids are under 9 years old, they will have to have 2 shots (1 today, 1 in 30+ days).

Before you make a decision I woud suggest using your computer to look up the facts and weigh the pros and cons. I would use an unbiased site not one promoting the vaccine. You also have to take into consideration how your children fare with vaccines in general. I did not get and will not get my kids vaccinated from H1N1 but this was my personal decision. For my family the risks of the vaccine were greater than the risks from H1N1 itself.

Yes I did get it for my kids when the town did it at the schools. The town is going to be doing one for the adults in about 2 weeks and both my Dh and I will be getting it then.

DH and I got it. He was fine, I on the other hand... About three hours after the shot, both arms went totally numb and I broke out in a blotchy rash. Went to the Dr. Yep. Vaccine related. I've never had any kind of reaction to any sort of vaccine, including regular flu shots so no idea where it came from or why. Scared the pooh out of me. A cortisone shot and a week on steroids and all is well, but man, I wish I hadn't gotten that thing. YMMV, of course. Just stating what happened to me.

I was on the fence for a long time too, but it wouldn't have made a difference if I wanted it because for months my daughters' pediatrician's office couldn't get any vaccines (low supply). Last month they finally got enough in and I decided that there had been no major problems in the previous months of people getting it, that I decided that I would rather risk the vaccine than the problems of H1N1. My youngest is 1, she had the shot and has had no problems. My oldest is 3 and had the nasal mist and she didn't have any problems either. They both go back at the end of this month to get their boosters.

DDs got their through their school, DH and I got ours through a clinic in a neighboring town (where DD9 also got her second shot).

We had no problems whatsoever.

We all also got the seasonal vaccine with no problems.

I am happy to report that (knocks on wood) none of us have been sick all winter.

I feel like our children get so many vaccines it's insane. i originally refused to do H1N1 at all. But, my older ds has asthma and I knew multiple people who had healthy family members with no pre-existing conditions end up in the ICU from H1N1. We're travelling to Mexico and Disney this year and that is what pushed me to get us all vaccinated. I did not want to be travelling and have my asthmatic son come down with H1N1. So, we did it.

We have to get the shot b/c of the asthma and we all did fine. My boys had to get 2 shots and did fine with both. No fevers, sore spots etc.

My entire family was vaccinated in late November. I got a headache the next morning, took advil and all was well. I am glad we got the vaccine. The kids got their 2nd shot too. We all got the injection.

ETA: That we all got the regular flu shot in late September.

My 2 kids and I all got it with no problems. I also babysit 4 more kids who got it along with their parents with no problems for any of them.

DD15 has asthma so she was in the recommended group. Her pediatrician only got a small supply and started with the families who had 3 yr olds, then 4 yr old etc. We kept thinking her Asthma/Allergy doc would get some in but no. In Mid-Dec, we found the injectable kind at Walgreens and she had one there. Absolutely no problems at all. My DH did it at same time and he had no side effects either.

Everyone has received the seasonal flu shot and the kids and I have all received the H1N1 vaccines. A couple of us had the needle and a couple of us had the mist. No reactions to any of them.
