H1N1 - did we have it?

Just an FYI...my ped. told me today that even if you had H1N1, you still need to get the vaccine. There is concern that there are different strains of H1N1, and just b/c you've had the virus, that doesn't mean you can't get it again.

If you don't mind me asking....How are the kids feeling since they got the vaccine?

I want to get our kids vaccinated, but was wondering if there is any side effects?

My kids were thrilled to get the mist! No shots! I was concerned about how they would feel but they were fine. We get regular flu shots every year with no symptoms other than a sore arm. This time we didn't see any side effects at all. I researched it alot and what I have come up with is that if you are comfortable with vaccinations, and flu shots in general then there is no need to be concerned with this one. Does that make sense?

When my dd7 was sick she said, "Mommy I will get whatever shot they have if I don't ever have to be sick like this again!" That kind of puts it in perspective for me!

My 6 year old daughter had a temp of 103.8, a terrible headache, some diarhhea and was listless. She felt better after 4 days and I sent her back to school. How long are your kids out for? She was fever free for 24 hours which is what the ER docs said was the requirement to go back to school.

Should I have waited to send her back? Half of her class is absent this week from flu.

That was our school's guidelines as well, no fever for 24 hours (without using tylenol/motrin) and minimal coughing.

I had a conference with 5yo DS's teacher yesterday and she was asking about DS's illness (he missed 3 days, but was also sick the previous weekend) and she said that 6 kids in his class had been out with confirmed H1N1, then they came back for a couple weeks, then the same 6 kids were out sick again with secondary infections.

My DD8 is doing the same thing! She was out of school a couple of weeks ago with H1N1, but hasn't had a fever since last Sat. This past Sunday, she had a fever again of 102 (a week and a day later). The past couple of days, she's gotten a low grade fever of around 99.2 all afternoon :confused3 and has a nasty sounding cough, still. She feels fine besides that. Ped. said it was some kind of virus, but to treat it like flu again. Now we're just playing "wait and see." DH is ready for her to go back to school, and tried to send her today, but she wanted no part of it, and reminded me that she hadn't been fever-free for 24 hours ;) DH just thinks I took her temp. wrong, and that she's fine :headache: Strange, though, that it was 99.something all afternoon yesterday, but was normal last night and this morning. We'll see what happens this afternoon.
