gypsy 101 questions

i know i'm not the only gypsy newbie and may i plea for tips and suggestions?

it's hard to see the images on the keypad, is there a way to magnify? i noticed that the tap on the button shows a brief magnified image but it goes away quickly and puts it on the 'to be cut' bar, is there a way to look without it auto being placed in the bar?

i was thinking of taking my gypsy over to my neighbor's next weekend while we scrap, will that require me to 'update' her cricut machine through my gypsy in order to have the two machines communicate? is there any reason why i should'nt do that on someone else's cricut?

maybe i need to look into SCAL? as much i do know i will learn to utilize my gypsy, i am less than overwhelmed with it's graphics -- is that just me? is there a way to tweak the settings to see things easier?

If you hold down the upper left hand button while touching an image it will enlarge it for you. As far as communicating with other machines, I have mine linked to both my baby bug and the big E. There are no problems with either one.

If you get SCAL, you cannot use it with the Gypsy. Learning the G takes time, but it is great fun, and a very useful tool.

Yup, what she said. I use the magnifier button all the time. I have vision issues, the enlargement helps me see the edges of the cutting pad better.

thanks for the question, I was having the same issues tonight.

I'm really struggling with seeing the edge of the mat on the screen. It's driving me crazy tonight.
I could not figure out what the buttons were for either!

Design studio (CDS) is the one Cricut offers.

I think you can use the trial version of Design Studio and load to your Gypsy (I have a paid version, so I'm unsure if the trial version works). I prefer the size of my laptop screen, so I design in Design Studio and then cut with the Gypsy.

next questions you know those cards that come with the machine showing the keypad for the two pre-loaded cartridges...can I buy those? i'd love to have one for each of the cartridges I have loaded onto my gypsy to take to crops with me...

I don't know that they sell those, but here is a blog of someone who is making files to put the images on your Gypsy.
