Just a quick message to all UK ex pats living in Florida.

Happy Guy Fawkes Night for Friday November 5th.

Think of us back home as we freeze our brass monkeys watching the fireworks.

I'd love Guy Fawkes' night given all the fireworks and bonfires, but sadly it terrifies the wotsit out of my poor dog

I learned what this was on a Halloween documentary on the History channel. Really interesting holiday.

There are (naturally) conspiracy theories.

The official line is that a letter to a member of Parliament tipped them off and that Guy Fawkes was caught in the nick of time by guards.

But, there is a conspiracy that says that the guards knew about the plot well in advance and made a point of apprehending Guy JUST before he went through with the plot, thus rallying the public behind the King.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November, gunpowder treason and plot...

I was just saying earlier on to my oh that i really dont understand bonfire night(guy fawkes night) because we are effectivley celebrating a man who tried to destroy our parliment and overturn the royal family of the time.The point of the bonfire is to burn an effergy of fawkes on top of the fire but in my eyes we are still commemorating him.We have a tradition,that has been around forever,where children make a guy fawkes scarecrow and they ask for ''a penny for the guy'' to people passing by,the pennys then pay for wood and such to build the bonfire which their guy will be sat on.Personally i love the bonfires and the fireworks but i still dont necessarily think he is someone i want to celebrate.

Oh I miss Bonfire Night so much! My family used to go to the same place each year; we'd wrap up in hats, scarves and gloves, eat baked potatoes, write our names with sparklers...good times

If I ever have kids, I'll definitely be taking them back home to experience bonfire night at least once! Aside from Christmas, it's the time I miss being back in England the most.

Oh, and please send some of the cold weather to Florida. I was Christmas shopping today in 80 degree weather, and as nice as that sounds, it's hard to get in the holiday spirit when you're wearing shorts and flip flops!!!

No that dosent make me feel any better!!! lol I would give anything to be back in florida right now,cant believe its been a whole year since we were there. Its still raining here and is forcast to all weekend which means that any fireworks and bonfires will be interupted quite a bit but if we do get out i will try to take some piccies to remind you of home!! xx
