Guns...Your opinion?

I think that it's fine to have a gun, but to only use in emergency cases only. I would be FREAKED if one of my friends brought a gun to school, but I think that there should be ways to make sure minors don't get hold of guns.

I agree. My school has a shooting team, and a freshman has a gun license and quite a few guns at home that belong to him. It's crazy. :sad2:

Wow.. I'm not so sure about here, but I remember that in Canada you had to take a course, pass a test, and get a licence before you can get one. And I only knew one person who had one, and he was in a gun club. He kept in a room in the house that nobody else was allowed in, and it was totally locked up.

I'm completely opposed to guns. First off, i'm opposed to killing. Second, i oppose hunting. and what good do guns do? they do much more harm then good.

If police officers didn't have guns, what form of protection could they have that's as effective?

I have mixed emotions on this one.

I think we should be allowed to have guns. Not us specifically, but parents etc.
In the constitution it says we have a right to bear arms.

My family is huge on hunting, so of course we have guns.
I think that those guns should not be taken away.

Buuuut. I think there should be a stronger control as to who can get guns.

I graduated from a small private school with less than 280 students. we were very close knitted and there has never been any shooting. that only happens in public schools here.

now i attend a public university and i need to be wary of my surroundings...scary...

I also have mixed feelings. I think there should be stricter regulations on who should have guns. But that goes against our constitution in a way. :/

I am on my schools "shooting" team. We use a simulater, that has a real gun that was made specifically for this machine. Like they took a real gun, made it so it could not shoot bullets, then put a laser inside. So it feels, looks, handles exactly like a real gun, just no bullets. I am part of a Criminal Justice Academy, and only put on the team because I tried out on a whim and got one of the highest scores. :confused3

But honestly I think with proper education on guns they are not AS bad as everyone makes them out to be. Its when they end up in the wrong hands that cause problems. Usually with very scary and sad outcomes. :sad2:

no it doesn't.
the constitution says that states have the right to have a militia, that is armed. it does not say that joe schmoe can have a gun just for kicks.

i'm pro guns, but i hate that argument.

I'm against guns. We have enough knife crime in the UK already. Don't want to add guns too.

Just copying and pasting this from some Newsround thing I found.

"Why do so many people in the USA have guns?
It is very easy to buy a gun in the USA. You must be 18 or over. When you buy a gun from a registered dealer, you have computerised background check. This only takes a few minutes.
If you buy a gun from a "private collector" (anyone who is not a registered dealer), you don't need to be checked. This effectively means anyone over 18 can get a gun.

The American Constitution, which sets out the country's rights and freedoms, says people are allowed to "keep and bear arms."

This makes it very hard to make laws limiting the way guns are bought and sold.

Is it any different in the UK?
It is much more difficult to get a gun in the UK. It is completely illegal to own a handgun unless you can proove you use it to kill vermin like rats, or it is an antique type gun.
You need a licence to buy a gun. Depending on what type of gun you want, you need to do different things to get a licence.

You need to prove you will store your gun properly, and give the police lots of information about yourself, including your medical records.

You also need to get two people to say to the police that they think you are a good person to own a gun."

If only America had the same sence of morality, lol.

I live in a nice, quiet, and VERY sheltered suburban area. We haven't really had any issues with illegal activities in school (except when some kid burned part of the high school down.... that was funny!). If you talked to the kids at our neighboring school... completly different story, lol.

Our school ha like mad cops on campus everywhere so i think it would be hard to shoot someone.

but sorta related at my schools football game 3rd graders were selling tylenol, i mean seriously 3rd graders

Our school, or town for that matter, has never had gun issues.
I don't think anyone in our town, besides cops and antique collectors, even own guns.

I hate guns.
And I think they were one of the worst inventions ever made.
I know that most people argued they were the greatest, that they paved the way for so many things and made life so much easier, but in my opinion, they've helped more than hurt.
When people are angry or scared, they're impulsive. Which is dangerous on its own. Add a fast acting weapon to that equation, and its deadly.

I know a lot of people say that guns aren't dangerous, just the people that use them, but I disagree.
I'm a pacifist, and I hate the idea of guns.

In australia only cops and those with gun licenses can have guns.

And gun license people are usually like... Farmers.
And you know. They need there guns.

police officers, and police officers only should have guns.

I don't really agree with that.
IMO-Police officers, and those with gun licenses (after being screened) should be allowed to have guns.

Personally, this argument really doesn't get me going.
I can see both ways.
For me, I don't find it necessary to have a gun on me, it's unlikely I'd be in a situation where I'd need a gun.
Keyword would be 'I', seen as I don't have an intentions of learning how to use a gun.

Guns are unstoppable. They'll never be outlawed and can't be controlled, so I don't bother arguing or debating. It goes nowhere. Personally, I wouldn't own a gun, but if you want to own one, be my guest. They're easy enough to get.

But I'm still free to own Kevlar clothing. (Too bad it's so so expensive and hard to get. :\ )
