On Wednesday, at a local High School in my county a sophomore brought in a gun and shot her friend in the hallway. The reason? The girl who brought the gun to school had a crush on the other girl, and told her. The girl told her that she did not like her like that, and ignored her for a couple of days. :sad2:

That's awful. RIP to the girl who passed, and I hope both of the famalies will be alright during this hard time.

So if you could please keep them in your prayers, that would be great.

This thread was to talk about if you ever had any problems in your school with guns and what your feelings are on guns. Please no rude comments, keep it respectful.

The news announced 10 minutes ago, that a 3rd grader is being charged with bringing a gun to school today. What is this county/country coming to? :sad2:

Sure thing.

Yes, we've had problems in my school with guns. I feel the country needs stricter rules for purchasing and maintaining a gun. An owner needs to keep these things locked up and away from minors at all times.

I don't think that Guns should be outlawed all together, but there should be stricter rules on how someone can obtain a handgun.

i only read the first post. so someone might have already said this...

but an 8 year old murdered his father and.. brother i think? the other day... sad..

and i also have a very personal story with murder, but i dont want to get into it right now.

There was a situation with a gun at my high school, in my current English teacher's room, with said English teacher in the room.
I don't really know details, but here's this:

A 16-year-old student shot himself to death at a high school Tuesday despite a teacher's efforts to get him to give up the gun, officials said.

Police said Jay Douglas Goodwin, a sophomore at EHS, shot himself in the head in front of an English teacher and a female student.

Students were sent to a cafeteria and an athletic field after the shooting, and no other injuries were reported. The school has nearly 1,300 students.

Police Chief Dale Holt said Goodwin entered the classroom of 18 students, pulled a handgun from his backpack and ordered the class to one side of the room.

The teacher, Andrea Webb, convinced Goodwin to release everyone except for herself and one girl.

Goodwin then fired a shot at a television before turning the handgun on himself, Holt said. Webb and the female student weren't injured.

Holt said Goodwin may have had a relationship with the girl.

"It is believed to be a girlfriend, at least in his mind," Holt said.

Ashley M, a sophomore, said the school declared a "code red" after the shooting, meaning classroom doors were locked, lights were turned off and students were ordered under their desks while authorities determined what was happening.

"The teachers were telling us to stay calm, but it was scary," she said.

The school doesn't have metal detectors, but Superintendent Mike Harper said they would revisit the issue as well as other security measures.

"You just don't think it would happen here. I'm still shaking," said Tona M, who picked up her two children a few hours after the incident.

And then, when I was in the fifth grade another boy in my grade brought a gun to school, but it was discovered before anyone was hurt. One of his friends told an administrator about the gun after the friend was shown.

My school was the sight of one of the first school shootings in the early seventies. I know a few teachers that were around at the time and it happened during lunch. I believe 7 students and 2 teachers were killed. Many injured. Its just extremly sad.

& to answer the question on where they get these weapons, usually from parents, grandparents, neighbors, ect. Usually somebody you know owns a gun of some sort, and if a kid is really messed up and feels the need to do something like this, they will find a way. It is extremly sad. :[

ok.. here you go..

my moms best friend is erica andersons mother, and erica and scott were close to my family, and there two kids nathan and olivia were pretty good friends with my little brother.

basically, michelle and her boyfriend were mad at the rest of the family for some reason.. so when her parents got home on christmas eve they shot them both and drug them into the shed, then when scott erica and the kids got there, they shot scott and erica then shot the kids in the forehead execution style..

im so discusted just to be typing this right now. i hope michelle and her boy friend have to go through HELL in jail for a LONG time before they finally get executed. and let me tell you.. if i was the one doing it i would let that electric chair sizzle them for a bit.

the day guns are outlawed is the day you'll need one.
Here, here.

I have guns in my house. Quite a few, actually. It's nice to know that if something should ever happen, I'll be able to protect myself.

I'm against guns. We have enough knife crime in the UK already. Don't want to add guns too.

Just copying and pasting this from some Newsround thing I found.

"Why do so many people in the USA have guns?
It is very easy to buy a gun in the USA. You must be 18 or over. When you buy a gun from a registered dealer, you have computerised background check. This only takes a few minutes.
If you buy a gun from a "private collector" (anyone who is not a registered dealer), you don't need to be checked. This effectively means anyone over 18 can get a gun.

The American Constitution, which sets out the country's rights and freedoms, says people are allowed to "keep and bear arms."

This makes it very hard to make laws limiting the way guns are bought and sold.

Is it any different in the UK?
It is much more difficult to get a gun in the UK. It is completely illegal to own a handgun unless you can proove you use it to kill vermin like rats, or it is an antique type gun.
You need a licence to buy a gun. Depending on what type of gun you want, you need to do different things to get a licence.

You need to prove you will store your gun properly, and give the police lots of information about yourself, including your medical records.

You also need to get two people to say to the police that they think you are a good person to own a gun."

I am definitley for gun control. No psycho should ever be able to get a gun, but unfortunately they can.

::yes:: ITA.
I'm glad my dad is a police officer and I feel safe knowing he has his gun and knows how to properly use it in case our family is in danger and also at his job.

Where are all these under age people getting these guns?!

When their parents have guns and don't safely store them in places kids can't find them. (gun cabinets, safes, etc.)

i only read the first post. so someone might have already said this...

It was his uncle, not brother. But I heard this story.
And I also heard he was PLANNING it too! Like that child must have some serious problems if he's 8 and a murderer...
I heard they're charging him as an adult too?

I'd never thought of this. I'd never own a gun though. I HATE them. They scare me.

I'm for tougher gun laws but do not believe they should be outlawed.

thats terrible...

nut when i was in the 3rd grade my freinds brother who was in 4th grade brought a knife to school. i think thats kinda creepy. and it wasnt a little veggie knife. it was a full on HUGE knife. creppy right?

I don't think guns are bad, but we tend to use them at inappropriate times.

Down here, A LOT of people have guns. It's quite easy for minors to get them.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I don't believe guns should be outlawed, but I do believe in stricter gun laws.

Well then I'm not surprised that so many people have guns... and if they don't put it somewhere that only they can access it, then I'm not surprised that these people are shooting everyone up.
Shouldn't they have to do a few tests, and then get a liscence before they get a gun?
That's so stupid.

I agree. My school has a shooting team, and a freshman has a gun license and quite a few guns at home that belong to him. It's crazy. :sad2:
