Gun Found at AK - Updated Post#25 Guest Found Loaded Gun

I'm not a gun aficionado, so I could be wrong, but I didn't find anything else through a quick online search about a Cobra 0.38-caliber semi automatic. Searching for a Cobra 0.38-caliber pulls up that gun or a slight variation of that gun. It also seems to fit the bill for fitting into a back pocket (such that any gun can) and carrying five bullets.

Perhaps somebody with a better knowledge of guns can clarify.:confused3

Hah, if you google "cobra .38" now this post is the first result :P The cobra is a .380 caliber pistol, the 0 differentiates it from the .38 special, which is a revolver cartridge. Don't blame me, I didn't name these calibers (neither of which is .38 inches in diameter either!)

Anyway, a search for "Cobra .380" will bring it up. It is a low end pistol from a manufacturer with a dubious reputation for quality. But hey, low income folks need protection too. A Walther PPK would be a similar pistol with a much better standard and reputation.

EDIT- Ahh, beaten by Gumbo. I suspect we would have an enjoyable conversation in a corner of the Germany pavilion over a few glasses of beer :)

Anyway, I agree with you guys, the only firearms I want to see in Disney are the ones they sell in Frontierland. Those nice wood and metal percussion cap rifles and double barrelled pistols. Oh, wait, they are just cheap plastic now, aren't they? When did that happen?...I feel old now :)

Why does everyone on this board think they are right about everything and have an opinion about everything. They are always right and you are always wrong. They just can't let things go. I can't understand it.

If no one had an opinion the Dis would be boring.;)

Whether pro gun or not, it was totally irresponsible. You do not carry a weapon and allow it out of your control for whatever reason. I don't get off a ride without checking my pocket to see if my cell phone is still in it. It would be incomprehensible to be carrying a gun and not doing a self check after a ride. I seriously question why you would ride with one because of this scenario. It was a huge mistake and luckily nobody was hurt no matter what his intention was.

He had the gun in his pocket. They don't search pockets. No metal detectors.

Heck, this guy could have shot his butt off.

I carry a gun on my person 90% of the time.

When I go to Disney I leave my pistol home. After all, I'm on vacation.
Heck I almost got kicked out of a park for explaining to my 4 year old they searched her to make sure she didn't have a gun or explosive device.

Not only can you not have a gun in the park. You cannot talk about a gun in the park. Security was very nice about telling me the customers around me were international and they may not understand everything I say but will understand gun, grenade or thermal nuclear device.

So security checked my daughters bag and didn't check mine that has a holster in it (holding a water bottle).

I love Disney but they are VERY PC.

Can I ask why you carry a gun on your person?

well, If a mad man ever pulls out a gun and starts shooting...we can be certain that a CM will run right over and remind him of the no-guns policy.
So, I guess Its all good.popcorn::

Granted, Disney security goes through the drill of inspecting our bags, but the big question of the day would be: "Are they doing all that they can to protect the general public"? With the knowledge that someone could easily pass through the gates with a weapon concealed on their person; what say you?

Likely the same reason as many of other CCL holders. Good luck getting a criminal to allow you to call 911 and wait 10 minutes for the cops to show up.

Did an internet search for the man named in the article. Turned up 2 mug shots for arrests in FL. One in 2011 for battery and one on May 7 2013 for battery. Is this the same guy? Can you have an arrest record and a concealed carry permit?

To answer your question, you are not eligible for a conceal license if you "are under arrest or currently charged with any felony, or crime punishable by imprisonment for more than one year; or any crime of violence, including crimes of domestic violence; or any crime under the provisions of Chapter 893, Florida Statutes, or similar laws of any other state relating to controlled substances."

I would not go by any internet search. We all know what happened with the Casey Anthony/Zenaida Gonzales incident.

1. Common sense that all theme parks (similar and not so similar to Disney) will not permit weapons. People need to read signs! They are not there as a decoration!
2. Most police will not relinquish their weapons (article does not identify this man as police). Just saying and I don't know if Disney has a policy to address this but most hospitals do.
3. WDW needs metal detectors in today's day and age. Won't please most with hold ups but safety should always be #1.

For many years, I have said there are three reasons not to carry at WDW:
1. When I was a cop they drilled into us "The FBI says only 30% of rounds land on target in police action shootings. You'd better !@#$ well be thinking about collateral damage before deciding to engage." The parks are a collateral dense environment.
2. After Columbine, we were retrained. Prior, we'd assemble a response team, start a search, help the injured along the way, etc. Now it's "listen, locate, neutralize". The person with the gun in their hands, good guy or otherwise, is likely to be ...
3. Ability to retain positive control of the weapon in the theme park environment.

This incident demonstrated my concern #3. I pray #1 and #2 will never be illustrated.

It was once said "Our guests have all the security they're willing to tolerate without us loosing business for being too strict or too loose."

My brother and his family are in WDW right now, and the day that gun was found on "Dinosaur" was the same day they went to AK. I have no clue if they know about this, but I know I'd be a little rattled if that happened while I was there. :worried:

Excellent points. I have a CCW and my DH is a police officer. Neither of us bring a gun onto Disney property. However FL law doesn't prohibit it.
