How easy is it to find Gulten Free Food (GF) at disney? We just found out that DS has Celiac.

Our oldest DD thought she had gluten allergies (long story) so she avoided it for over a year and went to WDW twice during that time. She is also lactose intolerant. She decided where she wanted to eat (TS) and called WDW dining and told them she needed a special menu. In restaurants she told the waiter she had allergies and asked what items were gluten free. Usually the chef would come out to talk to her and then made her a special entree. They were absolutely wonderful to her.
For the CS places she just looked at the posted menus and figured out what she could eat. I promise you she ate well at Disney with no problems.

When you make your ADRs, contact specialdiets@disneyworld.com. My DS2 is allergic to dairy and eggs, and Disney is AMAZING with food allergies. We have taken him 3 times, and we have always had such great servers, managers, and chefs who make sure there are wonderful options for him to eat.

There are Lots of gluten free choices, as the PP suggested contact the specials diets office. They will send you a list of gluten free items available. Also, note the gluten intolerance on your dining reservations and speak with the chef at the restaurants before ordering your meals. They will oversee the meal preparation to ensure no cross contamination. At quick service locations, ask to speak with the manager who will also oversee food preparation for your son (one note, at quick service locations, prep may take longer for gluten free items - but - we have never felt it was unreasonable).

:goodvibes

I am so happy to see this post. My 8yo DS was just told today to go on a gluten free diet. We are still waiting for the complete diagnosis for Celiacs. We are going to Disney next month and I have already made out reservations.

Thanks for the email address above!

Thanks everyone you have been a great help :thumbsup2 DS has been to disney 2 times but was not on a GF diet so he still remembers what he had and where he had it LOL. It is still new for us so it is hard when we go shopping and he waits to get a pack of fresh baked cookies and I have to say no you can not have them :worried: We still have some time before we go to disney so by that time he will know what is good to eat and what is not. Thanks again everyone.

Thank you frtchr for the email that will be a get help too :thumbsup2

Hop on over to the disABILITIES! board. There are lots of people over there who go to WDW gluten (and other things) free. Many post dining reviews of their trips. WDW is AMAZING with all food allergies and intollerances. It's one of the reasons we return as often as we do.

I would definitely check out the DisAbilities forum...there is lots of great info there (as Clanmcculloch said!) WDW is amazing for special diets. I'm gluten and dairy free, and I have had great experiences. Lots of food choices too, especially at the table service restaurants. Contact special diets and they'll give you a nice set of sheets with GF offerings at the CS locations. :thumbsup2

non Disney related - but i thought this might help for those of you with children who are just starting out on the gluten free diet..
Some of my favorite GF brands are:
Glutino (crackers, pretzels)
Schaar (crackers, cookies are awesome!, pasta, bread)
Mi Del (chocolate chip cookies - GF version of Famous Amos)
Aleia's (bread crumbs and croutons...my mom used the croutons to make stuffing on Thanksgiving..I went to take leftovers and i thought i took the non GF by accident)
Conte's (raviolis & pierogies)
Sam Mills (pasta)
Shabtai (black&white cookies, rainbow cookies, these things called Ring Tings..taste like Ring Dings)

Kraft is a reliable company. Their products will clearly label if there is gluten.
Heinz has a whole list: http://www.heinz.com/health--wellness/focus-foods/dietary-preferences/gluten-free.aspx
Betty Crocker as well: liveglutenfreely.com - Gluten Free Bisquick is just starting to hit the shelves, I have yet to see it though in NY.
(the cookie, cakes and brownie mixes are so good.)

WOW :cool1: I LOVE this page (DisAbilities) :thumbsup2 It is nice to see that Disney goes that extra mile for you :goodvibes

Also for those of you with children, it can be difficult because some GF items don't taste that great. I bought a breadmaker and make my own bread. Pamela's bread mix is great and tastes good compared to a lot of other GF bread. Also pamelas pancake and baking mix is excellent for making pancakes and cookies. They taste really good, just like the real stuff. Idk if you can get it in your area, but if you can't find it you can order at Amazon and you can subscribe to get it every 2, 3, or 6 months and you can save some money and they ship it free. It really does taste good. I found out a couple of years ago that I had Celiac, but I am an adult. It is probably a very hard transition for kids. Try these mixes if you can. You will not be dissapointed. Some others are not that great and your kids will not want to eat it. Good luck with the GF diet and Disney is great with taking care of those of us who need a special diet. So I am told, next year is my first time GF at Disney.
