We did the tour back in Dec 07. We loved the program and were ready to buy right then... but didn't have a checkbook or CC... we only had our room keys. Anyway... we looked and waited and ended up going with resale with TSS. We're currently waiting on closing for the resale purchase.
We liked the guide that we toured with and I hated not buying with her.
How are resale guides assigned? How are they compensated? If we requested the guide we toured with would there be resentment? Did she lose big bucks because we bought resale?

Thanks

The Guide that you toured with is your Guide if she is still there. If she has moved on, you will be assigned a new Guide.

How would they know? we're buying through resale, not direct. How can they link us? Do they match the name we gave them on the tour with a new sale name on the contract- resale or not?

Your guide you used when you toured will not get anything at all from your resale transaction. They will not get any commision from your purchase.

I thought so. So they are paid on commission? I thought commissioned sales would be more "pressured". I felt no pressure during the tour in December.

disneynutz says: "The Guide that you toured with is your Guide if she is still there. If she has moved on, you will be assigned a new Guide."

So somehow disney will match up my name from when I toured 3 months ago to the resale contract that is in process now and give me the guide that I decided to not buy direct from?!? That was the intent of my original questions:
1. How are guides (from resale DVC sales) assigned?
2. How are they compensated? apparently commissioned
3. would there be resentment? Did she lose big bucks because we bought resale instead of direct?

How important is a guide anyway? Is there a reason to go through them for anything other than add-ons?

Yes, as stated above you will have the same guide whether you bought resale or not.

They will not receive any compensation from your resale purchase. They are a commissioned sales staff.

Of course, the guide lost out on income when you did not purchase Disney direct. I would not expect "resentment" but what expectation should there be anyway? You will not have contact with them unless you choose to purchase more points from Disney down the road.

Guides are sales people who you will contact for any of your purchase needs. Some guides are able to provide assistance when you buy direct from Disney and need to make ressies prior to your closing. This cannot be done when purchased via resale.

Hope this info helps! :)

We bought a resale after I had been working with a guide. I was up front and honest about looking at both options. Our guide was helpful and nice even after I informed him that I bought a resale. There was no resentment.l later bought an add on through him when the incentives made a direct purchase more favorable. The add-on purchase through Disney was much easier and faster than the original purchase.

Ok, We are also new to DVC it it sounds like we are in the same exact position as mcmeekin. We have an outstanding offer on a resale and just waiting for the RORF. To extend mcmeekin's question/concern.

We also originally talked to a guide although only over the phone to get DVC materials. Most of our research was done online.

My question is related to the "guide". I'm assuming our assigned guide is the person we talked to once or twice on the phone. Will this "guide" also be our same contact for reservations? It was my understanding each DVC member has a specific person assigned to them for reservations also.

Your guide is your sales guide -- there to handle any add-on purchases you might want to make.

DVC Member Services handles your reservations, and not your guide.

No, you will not contact your guide for reservations. Basically (I believe -- I have not hit the 1 year mark yet), you only contact your guide when you want to buy an add-on or another master contract. For reservations, you contact member services (MS).
