Just arrived at OKW yesterday and picked up a flyer on "Guided Fishing Excursions". I'm here with my daughters (ages 23 & 19) and my son (age 13). We know virtually nothing about fishing but we're wondering about trying this. The flyer says it is bass fishing and mentions Bay Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon, shoreline of Village Lake, Crescent Lake, and World Showcase Lagoon.

For those of you that have done this, would you recommend it? Do you get to choose where you fish? If so, where would you recommend? Would this make sense for a non-fishing familoy like us?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello, I'm an outdoor writer and did a story on this once. I can tell you that we fished the Bay Lake area and Seven Seas Lagoon. We got on the boat at Fort Wilderness Camp Ground Marina. The guides are out fishing everyday and will know where on the lake to take you. They supply everything and you need to know and bring nothing. As for your question "does it make sense for your family" to do this. That's up to you. Everything is what you make of it. That's why it's called fishing and not catching. We booked a half day trip and caught about 20 bass weighing up to 6 pounds. You do need to pay extra for live shiners and don't forget a tip at the end. I hope this enoguh information for you. If you have anymore questions let me know.

I have not been on the fishing trips at the parks, but I've heard excellent things about them; we're actually thinking about doing it this year too. My family only really got into fishing a couple of years ago, and it's a great hobby to do together; from everything I've heard the boat captains are VERY helpful to newcomers and will essentially either help you every step of the way, or just let you do your thing, depending on your level of experience.

Here's some more info, though there's only one reader comment there:

We love the fishing excursions - always one of the high points of our trip. On our trip last December, we went twice - once from the Boardwalk and once from Wilderness Lodge. If you take the early excursion from BW/YC/BC, it goes into World Showcase lagoon, which is pretty cool.

We enjoy both, but prefer Bay Lake, as it just seems more peaceful. We always catch quite a few fish. My husband even has a screen saver of him with one of his catches.

The guides are very helpful and will bait the hooks and help you (my husband fishes in "real life", but I have only ever fished at WDW), so don't worry about not knowing anything about fishing.

It is expensive, but we always do and enjoy it greatly.
