Guidebook?

We'll be going on our first DL trip (w/ DCL) in Sept. 2012. For this Christmas I wanted either purchase or create a useful guidebook for my friend. I feel like the Passporter is the best WDW book, but they don't make it for DL anymore.

Is there a highly recommended book for DL or would I be better off building one based on the expansive knowledge here on DisBoards?

Thanks,
Gayle

The unofficial guide will give you the nothing held back view of Disneyland. The official guide will give you the cheery everything is awesome view of Disneyland. For most the truth is in the middle. Honestly I prefer the Offical Guide because I think the Unoffical guide is too negative.

Probably, there is more and better information on page one of the DL boards than any guide book has.

Admittedly, I did not read the responses above, so this may have already been mentioned...

Judging by your signature, you certainly qualify as a WDW Vet! If you've been to WDW that many times, I would personally suggest you save your money and read HydroGuy's "A DL Guide for WDW Vets". It's a couple years old, but still very accurate, and in my opinion, far more helpful than any printed guide I've read.

In fact, if you spend a little time reading all of Hydroguy's Tips, you'll be far more educated than you would by only reading a store purchased guide.

Yeh, I saw that a few months ago and was blown away! It's what kinda gave me the idea. Thanks for the vote of confidence. After 27 WDW visits, it's actually easier to understand DL when it's directly compared to WDW. :thumbsup2

Barnes and Noble has the 2012 DL Passporter listed as available for preorder. I ordered the Unofficial Guide, but I would like to get the Passporter because I love the fold out maps.

I used the Unofficial Guide and found it very good. You can use the touring plans if you want or you can take the basic ideas associated with the touring plans and use them. I signed up on their website after I bought the book (you get a discount if you have the book) and on there you are able to create your own touring plan for each day that fits your needs. It also shows you predicted crowd levels and historical crowd levels for both of the parks.

I couldn't find it. Can you tell me how to find it or post a link?

Here is the response from Passporter from my email inquiry:

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, we won't be releasing a 2012 edition. Demand for the book is not high enough to justify an annual revision, and we want to wait until the changes at Disney California Adventure are at least closer to completion before we produce the next edition.

Hmm, that's interesting. Here is the link. It says that it will be available on 12/2. I'm tempted to order it just to see what happens. :cool2:
