I was talking with a guide the other day when talk turned to GCV. Guide mis-understood something I said and then put on a lot of emphasis to make the point of confusion clear: GCV is not selling nearly as well as they expected and it is no where near being sold out. Thought it was kind of interesting.

I am still just puzzled as heck about this..I guess it's a good thing I'm not a DVC planner because I would have made the DVC portion of VGC much larger
I sill think at some point , maybe after the economy improves, they will become very popular.
They are already very popular to me! I'm thrilled to be an owner

I think most of the locals consider DL more of a beloved "regional" type park, rather than a destination. There is so much to do in CA. and many figure why go to Florida, we've got a really nice Disney park right here. The Hawaii resort may help boost sales in CA, once it opens, as that is a popular destination for Californians.

There are several reasonably priced resorts/hotels within walking distance of DL.

Maybe staying on site isn't worth the premium, especially since you don't need a whole week to see the two parks.

It just takes too many points to stay there and my guess is that they are going to make the same mistake in Hawaii.

I guess I can see some of the points..but really..there are economical places to stay in WDW too..I just don't want to see the outside world when we go, so onsite is worth it to me. Yes, alot to do in So Ca and easy to rent a car and do so, but the same is true for Florida..lots to do there besides WDW. Yes, average stay may be shorter..we average 3-4 night in DLR while our stay in WDW will be 7. Points aren't that bad..about the same as theme park view for BLT..I guess the real best kept secret is how wonderful DLR is...

I know they are going to make the same mistake with HI.

We should start a pool on how many pts an Ocean Front 2br is going to be for a week.

And if DVC is anything like Starwood, Marriott, Wyndham, etc. HI will be Premier season 1-52.

If the masses only knew...
IMO, if you just compare apples to apples, Disneyland is nicer than Magic Kingdom.
I heard that several years ago, but it didn't hit home until I saw DL for myself.

I said it before, and I'll say it again... If more people were familiar with DLR (as they are with WDW), the VGC would already be sold out.

In addition, as tjkraz has pointed out in an earlier thread, BLT is really getting the marketing right now. DVC doesn't seem to be pushing VGC at all, and BLT by far the most. I think they figured it wouldn't require much marketing to sell 48 villas.

We live about 20 minutes from DL, and still go to WDW at least every other year. It is hard to compare the two. We did go and check out the GVC, just yesterday.... the rooms are beautiful, in fact, I immediately booked a 2 bedroom around Christmas. I think that once Disney sends the Wonder over here to stay, and people can come to DL go on a cruise to Mexico, and then visit So. Calif. they will have no problem selling out.

The point schedule for GCV is brutal. I was excited to buy until I saw that, choked and changed my mind. I'll just pay cash for a GC room thanks.
Also consider that unemployemt in California is over 10%, the state's finances are a trainwreck with apologies to trainwrecks everywhere and the State legislature is still busy making California less desirable to live and own a business.

All true, but I still find DVC to be a better value than cash at VGC.
I Also think the lower fees at VGC are because of the higher point requirements. That means the annual fees are roughly in line with the other DVC resorts.

So true! I love DL and even DCA. We're hoping to do Christmas 2010 there with extended family. We've had some amazing trips there. With the great incentives for VGC points, I tried to talk DH into buying there, but he doesn't think we'll go to CA often enough. I tried.

Very true...still..VGC points are in line with BLT Bay Lake View, not even MK view as I earlier said..and when WOC opens what a wonderful view we'll have of that. People aren't screaming about how high BLT points are. 17 points a night..if DVC points are valued for rent at 10 pp then I can get a great room, better than a regular hotel room, for 170.00 a night..Cash rooms average closer to 350-400 (except when there are insane discounts, I think we got ours in January for about 200 and heard a front desk CM offer a room for 149...of course that is before tons of taxes and resort fees which we also get to miss out on on.) I'm still just
I do agree that CA has become a trainwreck..I'm from california and it is such a beautiful stae..too bad it is where it is.

I think that for those with kids who travel when school is out the magic season point requirments may be a "deal " breaker, 530 points for a week, you can get 12 days at most of the WDW DVCs for less points.
