Guests/visitors in concierge rooms?

*123JOANNA123*-

I think you made the right choice. When I travel with my mom, also a widow and not in good health, I think of what would make the trip the best for her and pay the extra that it takes to do it. This way she can join you in the lounge and be in the same building. Have a great time!

I guess I could "see it from their perspective" if THEY were the ones who paid in full to be at AKL, while you were in concierge. Maybe. But if I had friends who offered to help me out when I could not afford to stay at the same BEAUTIFUL, DELUXE resort, I would be overflowing with GRATITUDE, not sarcasm. I learned on my first trip to WDW that even friends who are close friends can be difficult to vacation with. ;)

We had already booked our vacation, and I think it's wrong to say I should have downgraded my room for them We love the concierge at AKL and wanted to stay there. These are friends-not best friends , who really included themselves inour vacation because it was hard to say no. they used my points for 2 nights at BCV without offering to pay. We did see them more than if they were at ASM. I did the upgrade at check in because my husband was playing golf all day and I'd have to take them to check in, pick them up later, go get the kids to meet to swim, etc. So it was easier for me to have them at the same resort. I thought it would be something the kids would enjoy-seeing the animals etc. Maybe I handled it badly.

I think you did a nice thing for your friends that you felt would make everyone's vacation more enjoyable. It's unfortunate that they did not see it that way.

Joanna, I just wanted to say how wonderful I think it is that your Mom is going with you. While it will be very hard for her without your Dad, I'm guessing that she will be a Disney fan after this vacation. Once she sees how special concierge wil make her feel (and I'm thinking she , and all of you, could use some "magic") and she sees the look of wonder on her grandchildren's faces, I'm betting she'll be the one to plan your next vacation!!! I hope all of you have a wonderful time!!!

I think you handled it very well, I would have been tempted at the first complaint, to say well we can always relocate you back to the All Stars so you won't have to be submitted to the torture of a deluxe resort at the price of a value one.

BethA.......

I think that you were extremely generous!

I do have to say that I'd never allow my friends to pay for my trip in any way. I think that they "let" you probably explains a lot about their attitude towards not having concierge service.

Of course I have to admit my mom has sprung for a lot of expenses on many of our Disney trips, but that's family and it's just different than friends.

Besides, I just "let" her do it to make her happy.;)

Beth--I do'nt think you handled it badly at all. Rather it sounds like your "friends" are ungrateful, rude, and probably not people you want to stay friends with.

Had I been in their situation and wanted to have evening drinks with you, I would have invited you to come to Victoria Falls with me and picked up the tab!!!

We've taken friends and relatives with us to WDW a couple times, and most have always offered to at least pick up a nice meal, pay towards the DVC room, or sent us a gift basket or flowers. When you do something nice for friends you expect at least some gratitude, and I think you were perfectly in your right to be annoyed.

Exactly what I was going to say.... I don't think these people are really friends of yours. I would have shipped them back to All Star so fast, their heads would be spinning!!!
