Guests uning quick service restaurant tables

We rarely eat in a McDonald's, but on the times that we have, there has often been a cluster of people waiting at the counter for their orders in addition to the line of people waiting to order. If my husband or another adult is with me and my daughter, one of us will go sit and wait for the other person to bring the food. It is much more problematic to have a party of people waiting at the counter than it is to have the unneccesary people sitting out of the way. We don't sit at McDonald's because we can't bear to stand for three minutes; we sit because we are in the way.

I haven't been to Disney in 18 years, so I can't speak to the difference aside from what I have read here. I would do the same if it seemed crowded with people waiting for food at the counter unless an employee told me otherwise, because it wouldn't occur to me that it would be a problem. However, I wouldn't force someone to eat at a trash can or deny someone who asked to share my table, nor would I sit if I was not eating there.

I guess my point is that most people who "save" tables are really trying to relieve congestion at the counter and assume that, like McDonald's, there won't be a seating problem where people are not being seated with food. It isn't a malicious thing. It is often an effort to be polite by not blocking the service area.

I agree 100% with this post. Well said.

But when you're sitting, with no food, and there are people with food looking around for a place to sit, but there's no seats available because they're all taken, some by people like you with no food, then it's rude.

I have to say that I am going to have to take the other side on this one. If guests want to occupie a table while not eating and there are no tables for other guests to eat at then this is Disney's fault. It is not other guests responsibility to make accommodations for me it is Disney's. I am not paying another guest almost a hundred dollars to go to the park I am paying that money to Disney. If more tables are needed then disney should provide those tables to their guests. Every guest sitting at Seriously a table is a guest not standing in line at tsm or btr etc. if people are tired and need a place to sit then It is Disney's responsibility to do something about it. Remember these peop

le sitting at the tables have paid to be there just like you have. I do think it is rude to use a table if you don't need it, but then again if somebody wants to sit at a table shooting the breeze instead of taking up a seat on a ride that should be their option. If you cannot find a table complain to your host, Disney.

Seriously? So what you're saying is that Disney should have tables open everywhere so you can prop up your elbows and have a discussion? Really?? While the people who have spent even more money than you because they bought the same park ticket you did + food get to wander around....

I think my host Disney is well within their rights to tell you to move out of the table space intended for paying guests.

Now can you move please so I may sit down and eat?

to the OP read the responses you got and you will see why you could not find a place to sit. :sad2:

No its not rude. If Disney is so crowed that people are forced to eat at a trash can then Disney needs to figure out a way to add more seating. Personally, if i ordered a tray of food and could not find a seat i would not eat on a trash can. I would see the manager and ask for refund and then pick another spot to get lunch.

The amount of tables needed to ease congestion should be based on the number of people who usually eat at that particular restaurant, not on how many people are wandering the parks and decide to just plop down.

I'm not there to "plop down." I'm there to eat lunch. I'm not defending people that use a table with no intention of eating a meal. I'm just objecting to being called ruled for sitting down at a table with my four kids while myself or my wife orders lunch.

Disney has Fixed the issue. They post signs an station CM at those signs at busy times and don't allow people to sit without food. The non food sitters side of this argument loses! Disney agrees - and they have done something about it.

I think the only time this is a problem now is when it rains and people seek shelter.

I think I have a picture of the sign somewhere - but I'd have to dig for it.

I'm glad Disney was made changes to deal with people sitting and not eating. The restaurant should be for people who only intend to eat a meal there.

It doesn't matter if you INTEND to eat there... you must have food in hand to get into the seating area.

Anyone sitting at a table currently has food. You and your four kids would be directed someplace else to wait until the other adult returns with the food.

You must not travel or eat during busy times if you haven't seen this sign... or haven't been in the last 3 years.

Here is one of them. This sign was up last week, and CMs were stopping people without food, even during the rain. I saw several similar signs in different CS locations.

Maybe this will help. They tested it in 2009 and still actively do it.

People doing this "clog up" 1/3 of the tables. Rude and seen as a problem during busy times.
I'm glad you found the link to that. I wish they did it more often though. I go during off-season, but I've still had problems finding places to sit sometimes, and I even try to time my meals for before or after peak periods.

I said in my reply that I would obviously follow any instruction on a sign or given by an employee and that I wouldn't make someone sit on the floor or at a trash can. I didn't specify that my family normally orders as a family and THEN splits, so we clear the standing around waiting area. All I was saying was that many of the "seat savers" probably are more used to McDonald's than Disney, where whatnmakes things run smoothly is obviously different, and with the exception of people who holding tables for extended periods of time while others stand to eat, are not trying to be rude.

It looks like Disney has solved the problem, though,

I agree. I have 4 kids I'm not going to stand in line with them waiting for food. There isn't even a lot of room in the lines where you pick up your food. It's hard enough to move around with your trays in hand it would make it even harder to do with 4 kids while looking for a table. Usually 2 of us get the food with the rest find a place to sit.

That's pretty normal procedure, and it's what we usually do at most places, EXCEPT...

That practice is not allowed at selected WDW restaurants during selected busy times.

(Which is the point of much of this thread.)

This is a byproduct of Disney's apparent disappearing benches. They don't want people sitting on a bench who could be us spending money, so when you have Tired Family looking for somewhere to sit for awhile, they are going to sit anywhere they can, and a QS table is fair game to them.

We're leaving for WDW next week and expect to see these signs. I don't see a big problem with waiting until you get your food to be seated in most instances. I do think the CMs should make exceptions if there is a true medical issue. I would assume these guests would have a GAC, and I would hope that this could be shown to sit down.
