Guest Test of Magic Bands (Official Notice)

Anyone know how child rider swaps will work with FP+? Any changes to the system/rules? Sorry if someone already asked or talked about this in the thread.

Saw this earlier and forgot to reply...

At this point there is no expectation that the system for Rider Switch passes will change at all. Since regular Fastpass will still be around for a while, might as well keep the status quo. You don't need to show ticket media, MagicBand, or anything like that to get an RS pass, just the child. And I don't think Disney's figured out how to encode a child in the database to link to your MagicBand. :)

In the somewhat distant and foggy future, there may be a time when they don't have the old kiosks with which to print Rider Switch passes. So they may have to come up with something else - or go back to the old "print them backstage" with one of the old kiosks set up for the purpose.

Just saw a photo on facebook...hard to see all the details, but there are three "add-ons" available for the MagicBands:

CoverBands: These appear to be some sort of slip-on covers to the MagicBands, available in a handful of styles.

MagicSliders: Not quite sure what these are exactly, but they might be something that slides on the band. They are largish, in the shape of Mickey and Minnie.

MagicBandits: Jibbitz for MagicBands...

Why would they be selling accessories already for a system that is still in testing? It doesn't make much sense to me, especially if we still months away from go-live...

Maybe its a sign that the go-live date is much closer than we think?

I don't know the size of the pool of guests for the test, but I think it's a pretty sizeable amount - it's the first "full bore" guest test, and if they are offering FP+ at all the given attractions, they'd want enough of a sample size to test with.

Some of them might want to customize their bands...and if there is money to be made even during the testing, well...

They were going to have to establish the shelf space at some point.

True. But I would think that's almost like a teaser to the tens of thousands of other guests that are not in the test group.

What, you mean the original announcement of MyMagic+ wasn't already a teaser? :)

Heck, some might even buy them in anticipation of getting the bands later...

They already produced all the pieces of plastic and bling and advertised the roll out a zillion times. Safe to bet they thought it would be in place by now. I don't think the fact that they have the bands and bling is indicative of a roll out date.

(But it may show that their marketing staff and IT implementation staff may not attend the same meetings or read the same memos. ;) )

Ahh... The sign of a true collaborative effort! ;)

Agreed. If we had access to purchase them online and knew the bands would be available for my Nov trip, my family would be placing orders... They're already talking about customizing... :)

Well at the Contemporary at least everyone almost everyone checking in the next 3 days was eligible for the test so there should be a fair number of Magicband owners. If we start seeing these at other resorts then we know it's go live time.

Never underestimate the urge to get something when it FIRST comes out, for collectors....

I'm not even a collector at heart, and still I want one. And I really dislike the very foundation of the idea of magicband!

Stinkin' themepark marketing...they are good, very very good....

Well, feel free to bid away when they show up on Ebay. I won't be bidding against you. I have no desire to own a piece of plastic worn on someone's wrist for a week in the Florida summer sun.

Yep, I have been whining about the lack of plain black, but if I can get a cover or two or a different one for everyday...and I have the collector gene - which I genetically and by example passed onto DD14 and DS11.

DH is so not going to be impressed.

Oh, who am I kidding? DH can be just as bad as me!

Much better pictures, thanks - although it's hard to understand some of the prices...

The author of the article seems to be unaware of the test...

He does mention the test at the beginning:
Since some guests staying at Jambo House at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Contemporary Resort are currently testing out MagicBands as part of MyMagic+, Disney decided to go ahead and try to start selling those guests accessories for their MagicBands:

Seems he contradicts himself:

While MagicBand has not been rolled out to any guests yet, it sure is interesting that you can buy accessories already. Stay tuned as more information becomes available on the actual rollout of MagicBand to guests.
