Is it possible to transfer from a role coming out of the CP into guest relations? This is really the main reason I did the program, to get my foot in the door to actually do what I really wanted to do at disney, AKA Guest Relations. Has anyone met anyone that has done this, or is anyone that is in Guest Relations now can you give me some advice about Guest Relations and what they are looking for.

Thanks

Guest Relations at the Walt Disney World Resort is a highly sought after position. Many of the Cast Members have already been working for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US, Inc. for many years when they are transferred into that department.

Going from a CP straight into that position, while theoretically possible, is highly and extremely unlikely.

For those seeking Professional Experience there, they do offer a Disney Professional Internship position, but that is extremely competetive as well.

As glendalais said, PI's are really the only option to get in the department. It's really hard to transfer into there without seniority.

You could do a CP and then apply for the PI later, or do them back to back. Just make sure you only do the Fall or Spring program, not a quarter or advantage program.

It's really competitive and there's only about 20-30 intern spots!

Just remember, your CP time does not count once you become a full time/part time CM. Sure you have the experience, but your seniority date says otherwise.

^^^

Also a good point to mention! Seniority doesn't being until you are PT or FT, so again, it is very difficult unless you do a PI.

Guest Relations is O&T so it is not a regular "transfer" area. You have to physically post for the position via the Jobs Online Board, interview, then be placed on the bench. When they have room they will pull people off the bench to a Temporary Assignment which is your chance to shine. If you excel at the job and funding becomes available, then you may be offered a full time position.

FYI - because of the economy there are have not been any GR jobs postings in over a year. There was one scheduled to come up, but rumor has it that it will no longer be posted.

If you are extremely interested in a Guest Relations position with Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, you might be interested in applying to the Disneyland Resort in California.

Unlike their counterparts here in Florida, they do hire Cast Members "off the street" into Guest. It's still very competetive - like here in Florida, as many Cast Members already employed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US, Inc. in California also desire that position as well, but it does happen on rare occassion.

For more information on Guest Relations, please visit this information sheet prepared by California-Site Casting Services. If you would like to apply for a position with the Disneyland Resort, please visit the Casting Center located in the Team Disney Anaheim building behind Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California or visit http://www.disneyland.jobs/.

Let your manager(s) know that, that is what your goal is at the WDW Resort. There are tons of places where GR CM's are, and so the opportunity is there for those that pursue it with passion. I know someone that landed into it within a year of leaving her CP. She just went for it, and did the best job possible at every place she worked. NOW... it wasn't at a location she was wanting to be in for GR, but, she is in that role, and working her way so that she can get into the location she wants.
It's not a quick, short road to being GR in a location you want, but if you work hard for it, and show that you want it, you'll get there. Just be patient.
