Good grief !!!! I would die from fright! Talked to my sis in Florida the other night and she and a friend saw a huge alligator walking across the road in an area where they were bird watching.. YIKES!!

What's with all gator stories lately and the unprovoked attacks? Makes me wonder if I really want to spend 3 months a year in Florida.. LOL

I would be standing on the counter screaming!

Thankfully my house is so high in altitude that alligators would ahve to make quite a climb to get to my neighborhood, and there's really not much water and no realistic food supply, so they don't bother. We just get snakes and lizards.

I've also seen tons of birds including hawks and sand cranes, fox, and I'm sure we've got a variety of other mammals that I just haven't seen.

Gators have been in the news lately because it is mating season and they are more aggressive, since they are looking for mates. In addition, Florida has been pretty dry and due to their territorial nature, they usually have to go looking for other ponds, etc.

You should always assume that there are alligators in any body of water - lakes, rivers, and retention ponds.

It shouldn't be too much longer - once hurricane season gets rolling.

Also, if it makes you feel better, that picture and story is from Hilton Head, SC. Florida alligators won't show up at your front door - they head straight for your pool.

They mentioned that all the permits for alligator hunting season in the fall have been sold already. Close to 4500 permits were sold.

We had a alligator cross the road in front of our development one day when I was pulling out. Of course I took a picture of it and sent it to friends up North. We sure didn't have those creatures when I lived in PA.
