Tokyo Disneyland!!!!!!!

DD18 is in Japan for 3 weeks with a group from her college. They are living with individual host families right now. She just called to say she and her Japanese host family were on the way to Disneyland for the day!!! She is treating them to the trip to say thank you for hosting her for the last ten days. She has had an amazing trip, full of exciting cultural experiences like communal baths, sumo wrestling matches, Electric City, Mt. Fuji, and other wonderful things, but she was crushed that she was so close and couldn't get to Disney!!! So I suggested she offer the day as a farewell and a thank you and the family was happy to go!! They have 2 small children so they will have a wonderful day - and DD18 has been instructed to bring back some cool souvenirs!!!!

I'm so excited for her - and can't wait to see her pictures!!!

I love it when young girls are doing fun and exciting things at her age!!! She'll remember this forever.

I know!!! I'm so excited I'm practically jumping up and down!!!!!!! She has really had such a great trip - I hope it will stay with her for her lifetime. Although I'm kind of ready for her to be home - she was there during the tsunami warning (but far enough away not to be really in danger) and then an earthquake the other night. I hope she has a great and safe last week!! And I can't wait to hear about Disney!!!

I can't imagine how hard it is to let them go away like that! Even if you know it is the right thing to do it has to be so hard. Mine daughters are 9 and 5 and I am pretty sure that I am going to freak out when they start to seperate from me!

What a neat time in her life. I have always wanted to see Japan and anything to do with Disney is awesome! What a nice way to say thank you to that family!

Well, this is trip number three out of the country for her, so I've had two successful trips to get used to it! She went to Chile in 10th grade with her Spanish class, and to Uganda the summer after her junior year with her biology teacher (the teacher had worked in Uganda and wanted to start a summer student travel business, so DD got to be in her first group.) They were both really wonderful experiences for her - so she knew how much she would learn and change when the opportunity for this trip came up.

It's always hard to let your children do those things that are out of your comfort zone!!! But when you see them blossom as a result, you know you've done the best thing for them. I remember when DD13 wanted to go to camp for the first time the summer after first grade. She was so timid, and I knew she would be dreadfully homesick. But she had seen her big sister go and love it, and she begged and begged, so she went for a week. And she WAS really homesick, but she adjusted and had a great week. She was so thrilled with herself - she had discovered she had a strength she didn't know about. Ever since then, I've tried to get out of their way and not let my natural protective "keep you at home where I can know you are safe and well" tendencies keep them from growing up. But yes, it can be hard sometimes!!!!

that sounds like a once in a lifetime experience for her. Hope it was magical.

Great experience and wonderful for her to have it at such a young age! Please share the pictures.
