Well, we have been saving our change since we've been married (15 years) & never really had a plan as to what to do with it. We have opened bank accounts & CD's & have finally decided............

We are in the process of joining the DVC!!

I'm so excited!! It really does "pay" to save your change. It adds up quicker than you think. We would never have just saved the extra money.

One tip though - don't "dip" into the change account. We always made sure we didn't. We even saved our change on our WDW vacations, would come home & add it right to the "change bucket".

Good for you. Congratulation on your decision to join DVC. We joined in January while on the cruise. It has 'forced' us to take better and longer vacations.

We have been saving change for over a year. We put that and any 'found' money in to a savings account. It is then used for spending money on vacations. It is amazing how that adds up. DD8 enjoys saving change too. She likes to count it and put it in the wrappers(she doesn't realize she is getting a math lesson too;) ).

AWESOME!!! You will LOVE DVC, as a fellow member I guarantee it!! :teeth: It really pays to save that change!

Congrats and welcome to the DVC family--as a member I have found that the quantity and quality of our vacations has been increased greatly. ;)

Patsal - looks like we're neighbors whether we're in our real homes or our Home Away From Homes in Disney - I live right in Lancaster, NY!!

I guess I'm a neighbor too - just hanging out here in Cheektowaga, NY. :D

Just curious....how much money did saving change for 15 yrs net you? We have been doing that since we've been married too (10 yrs) and a few yrs ago started adding one dollar bills from time to time. I have NO idea how much we have, but it is in a HUGE jug.

disneyelaine - about $6300. Obviously, it didn't cover the cost of all the pts., but it did take care of some of it.

We only save change - no bills. We roll it every few weeks & take it to the bank. We actually opened up a few CD accounts with it, so it has accumulated some interest. (not much w/ today's rates).

We had thought of many things to do w/ it, one thing being the Disney cruise, another to continue saving it for a retirement home in Florida some day. We opted for this because if we did a cruise or a trip it would be a one time only deal & the money would be gone. I guess we'll start over with saving for the retirement home - I think now we may need to add those singles!!

Anyone that thinks saving your change doesn't add up should talk to people like us who make it a point to save it. It adds up slow, but it is money we probably never would have saved otherwise.

Holy Cow!! Our is in a big jug, well a water cooler jug. I'm guessing maybe 500.00, but maybe I am way off! Someday maybe I should start rolling it & going the CD route. Thanks for the advice! Hey we are DVC members too (6/2001), so maybe I should see if we have enough change to pay off ours! :)

I would bet you have much more than $500 in that jug!!! You will probably be quite surprised.

I've been saving change for a while myself and love it. Although I do use mine when I go on vacation. I usually have about $80 saved when I go on vacation. I use this as my traveling money...any snacks or lunches at airports, and a round trip on Mears. Congrats on the DVC.

if you have a 5 gallon jug you have way more than $500.00
i ve never filled mine past 1/2, 800.00 or more, use it every year for spending money at disney

Wow! What a great idea. I had never thought of saving to become a DVC member. We have always saved change & spent it on our Disney vacation, but we would love to be DVC members one day, so maybe that's what we'll start saving for.

Melsmice, Congratulations on becoming DVC members; what a wonderful way to use your 'change savings'. We're new members ourselves and are so happy with our decision to buy into DVC!
We've always used our saved change yearly, but I may start thinking 'longer term'. Thanks for giving me something to think about!

Wow!!! I'm impressed! When we told the kids a couple of months ago that we were taking them to WDW, we encouraged them to save any change they got (DD is 6 & DS is 4). It's worked a treat - they have saved over €200 (roughly the same amount in $) - of course, they do tend to raid our wallets and remove any change we have - including €1 and €2 coins!

I'll definately be continuing the trend when we get home!
