I just bought this one from Walmart. With the three year Keep it new plan
It is big enough to be used outside the car, however it doesnt have a battery it just a "Car Theater".
I very very rarely fly so didnt see a need to get a smaller portable. This one looks big but its really not, plus it has the capability for my son to change out his movies as he wishes without our intervention or having to remove the player from its carrier.
As far as the progressive scan question that applies to a dvd player you have hooked up to your TV and the TV has to have component inputs to be able to even take advantage of Progressive scan. However some portables are progressive scan, why? I dont know they are portables . I think what he/she meant was active scan which is the type of display for the portable LCD screen. An active scan or active matrix, TFT screens (more info) generally these screens give a better picture but you PAY for them. However in a portable player, used rarely, I think is overkill.
Some features I looked for:
Both AC and DC power capabilities.
The ability to hook up to a TV (most do)
The ability to hookup a gaming system to the unit (not standard)
Widescreen Capability
Give my son the ability to change out his movies with out having to remove the unit from the case or having me or mom change it out for him.
Grab and GO (all self contanined) I used to have a VCR in a BAG which was all contanined just grab it and hook it up.
Durable and able to take a beating.
Excellent warranty.
My name is John and I am a Home Theater addict.
