Guess this is kind of silly, but...how many miss their pets?

I have two sweet little Cairn terriers (toto dogs) and they are like my children. Now I have a WONDERFUL lady that takes care of them and I don't worry about leaving them...but MAN do I miss them!:) Our last trip I was ok until last night of the cruise our tablemates started talking about their pets back home and then pretty soon all of us our teary eyed and homesick! Is this pitiful or what? LOL:)
Seriously, I just would like to know that I am not too off the deep end by missing my girls. So...who misses their pets? What kind of pet(s) are you leaving behind? Where do they stay while you are gone? (is that being nosy enough?):)

(the Titanic let pets on, why can't Disney?) (kidding)

We, too, have our "babies." Ren & Cinder (used to have a Stimpy) are kitty cats! Ren is 10 and Cinder is 6. Just like children! We have a terrific pet sitter that LIVES for animals and comes every day to spend time with them and feed them.

We used to take them with us to WDW and board them at the kennels at Fort Wilderness (so we could visit them), but the 1/2 drive there made them car sick and they both would have the "throw's & go's"!

So, now they stay home and we miss them, but we don't get too crazy about it, though!

I DO completely understand, though!:D

We miss our yellow lab, Daisy, very much when we travel. We are extrememly lucky to have next door neighbors who also have a yellow lab and we switch off when one goes on vacation. We take care of each other dogs and they get to stay in their own homes.

On my last cruise I took a framed picture of my dog (Baby, an american eskimo) with me and put it on the night stand.
I even sent him postcards and left a Halloween present for him that my mom gave him Halloween night.

My dad stay'd here and watched him for me. While he was at work at night, my mom came over to let him out and play with him.

On this cruise we have an addition. Abby (a Keeshond puppy).
Dad will be here to watch Baby and Abby all day with mom comeing over at night. (she only lives 5 minutes away)

My dogs are my babies and I miss them when Im gone :(

I can totally relate!
Since hubby and I don't have human kids, we have plenty of the furry and feathered kind. I have an ancient cat named Muse, a younger terror cat name Toonces, and a cockatiel named Bradley. They all share our happy home, plus I have two Appaloosa horses (Cochise, my 25 year old baby who I've owned for 21 years, and Figment, my 4 year old that I bought last year and am gamely attempting to train!). The horses are boarded at a friend's house, but of course I still miss them. it's amazing how critters can become such an important part of the family.

It is so nice to know we are not the only ones! We have a beautiful cocker spaniel named Shelby who is our baby! She goes to daycare at my parents every day when we go to work, so luckily when we go away she goes there and is very comfortable. It sure would be hard to leave her if we had to kennel her when we went away! I think she likes being at my mom and dad's as much as she likes being home! I sure do love coming home though to her, she is always so happy to see us!

that no one thought I was overboard with this thread!:) I really do love my little girls though!

Barb, I had to double take on your Appie's name: Cochise...I had an Arabian by the same name for 12 years!:) Course she and my other two are relaxing on a 5000 acre ranch in Granby now. I couldn't keep up with them anymore!:(

I am glad that there are more pet lovers out there that understand what it is like to leave them behind!:)
My furry little girls: MacKenna and Savana thank you too!

Went I was a kid, we would go away every summer for a week to three weeks. When we got home the 5 of us kids would run, not walk, down the street to my aunts house to get the dog!! Pets are a special friend.

My husband and I have 2 dogs, one old and one young and 3 kids. We all talk about the pets at least a few times during the week we are away. Pets have taught the kids so much, how to love, take care of something else, and share.

Redhead01, thanks for the great idea! Taking a framed picture of our baby along has now been added to the ever-increasing packing list.

I miss my white long-haired cat, Louise, very much when we go on vacation. Always wish I could take her with us. She stays here at home when we go, and my daughter comes in daily to feed her but I don't think she gives her very much attention while we're gone and I know she misses me. When we get home she is my shadow. :) My mom was considering taking her in January while we're gone, but for several reasons decided she probably shouldn't. I think I would worry about her more at my mom's, than just leaving her here at home, though. And I know my husband misses his chocolate Lab, Shiloh, too! She stays home, too, whenever we go away. During the winter for our longer vacation, DH will put her pen in the garage so she will stay inside, so he doesn't have to worry about her being left out in the cold weather. Son, or son-in-law will let her out daily for exercise, and to feed her. It's always nice to come home to pets who are happy we're home! :D

The only thing missing on our Disney Cruise will be BJ, our black lab mix! Since he won't be sleeping with me, I guess my feet will be cold the whole time! He plans to stay with my sister and brother-in-law and his "cousin," Jaxx. I know he'll be in good hands, but he will sure be missed. Maybe I'll do the picture thing....

We got a choc. lab puppy (Tootsie Roll) in May, so she stayed with my sister on last summer's vacation. I have a feeling I'll need to look for a new sitter this year for our 7 day plus 4 days at WDW! She chewed up everything, and was quite a lot of trouble. I named her wrong though, my four year old calls her "Betty Not".

You're very welcome. :)
While we were eating dinner I picked a white hair off my blouse...one of my table mates saw this and said..its okay, I think we all brought a part of our pets with us...as she brushed a cat hair off her dress.
The next night everyone brought a picture of their pets to the dinner table and they thought it was so cute that mine was framed. LOL
My husband and I were the only couple at the table who had a child, so we passed Leahs picture around too (she looks like a mini Shirely Temple)

And yes, my girls are framed!:) I actually have one where they are seated at the table in our motorhome with coffee and rolls in front of them! Ok, this was staged just to be goofy, but the picture does get a lot of comments! :)

I grew up going to Hungary every summer, so I left my dog and kitty at home. I missed them terribly, took their pictures with me, and prayed about them every night. I knew though that if I didn't leave them, I would not be going on vacation! DH on the other hand hardly took vacations, and he has a very hard time leaving our pets. We always tear up when we drop our dog at the kennel, and he always says we are never taking any more vacations, but after this past summer, he was more serious than ever.

We went to North Carolina this summer, gone for 8 days, and when our dog (3 y.o. German Shepherd) came home from the kennel, she was walking 3-legged. Turns out she has hip dysplasia, which we did not know about before (she has a very large pillow for a bed), and sleeping on the concrete at the kennel hurt her hip so badly that it made her go lame in the leg. We all felt terrible, and my husband was ready to cancel his part of the this cruise unless we found someone to watch our girl. We were able to find a nice young lady to stay at our home, and she loves our dog, so we all feel much better.

We also have 3 cats, one for each of my daughters and my big Maine Coon. While the cats do fine having someone stop in once a day, it is nice to know that they will have someone there every day. While we will still miss our pets, at least we will not worry about them to the extent that we did before.

I still reserve the right to bring a tuft of my cat's fur with me, though, so that I can touch it and pretend I am petting him. The dog fur is coming no matter what, she has left us with her presence on every item of clothing we have!:)

It seems like everyone loves their pets or should I say "children" very much. I have a dal which is named Patches. She is so attached to me that when I spend anytime away from home she becomes sullen and goes crazy when I pull into the drive way.

My wife tells me she could be sleeping on her couch and all of a sudden leaps off the couch and runs to the door, My wife looks out the window but no one there then I pull into the drive way.

Animals are an amazing thing. We also have three cats.

On our last trip we had our son come and stay with them after the trip before having boarded the dog and found out she really didn't eat and just layed in her cage. The cats had stayed home and a neighbor had come in to feed them but did not want to take a chance with the dog. But never again.

We're DVC members so we take approx two trips ayear so my son will get to come home every now and then. I'm glad my baby, Patches loves him also.

And I can definitely relate to taking along remnents of your animals fur. Patches hair sticks to everything and is so difficult to get off.

When we go to wdw in April, I definitley have to bring a picture along, never really thought of it.

Thanks

kennyK

Ismac:
I have a Cairn Terrior that will be 14 on Dec. 24th. He can't see very well anymore and his kidneys are failing. Lately, he has had a few accidents/week. I can not say that I will miss him on my cruise. Poor Buster!!
