GTY Cat 12 upgrade question

We booked a Gty Cat 12 for a 4 day cruise leaving Sept 12th. I have seen the threads about gty's getting possible upgrades. I know there are no guarantees. When did you find out you had been upgraded? Was it before or after the balance was paid in full? Thanks!

We have cruised on the Magic 10 times. We've been upgraded 3 of them. Each time, it was different. Once, we found out with a call from our TA before we had documents (DCL called and offered an upgrade, I need to let them know if you want it.) Another time, the call was after documents....we were instructed to write in the new cabin number on the luggage tags. The third time, we didn't find out till we got to the port. The porter there has a list of names/cabin numbers, and he reported that the cabin on our tags had been changed...then the clerk at the counter confirmed that we'd been upgraded.

Gty cabins are the most likely to be upgraded....however, the rule is not to book a cabin that you won't be happy in. An upgrade is a lovely bonus, but you can't count on one.

I have been on 5 Disney cruises and have booked then 6-12 months in advance. I have never been upgraded. Cat 12 has great rooms. Hubby and I actually liked our inside cat 12 better than our navigator verandah room.

It used to be that they'd guarantee category 11's. What's interesting about the change to guaranteeing category 12's is that they can only accommodate 3, but they do guarantee parties of 4.

It's a given that you have to be upgraded if there are 4 of you in a cat 12 guarantee. If there are less, then you may end up in that level of stateroom.
