Sorry to say, I know of people having tickets and luggage labels with GTY, on them, whilst the bulk has always been allocated about 35 days, it can vary cruise by cruise and cabin by cabin, I feel the longer you wait the slightly better percentage chance you will get an upgrade, basically as they cannot fit you in now, and also they GTY the room level, they have to fit you in somewhere, so any cabin higher will accommodate you, so very good luck with the Cat 1

Beth - still nothing ?!?! Aye yi yi !! Fingers crossed you get something (fabulous!) soon.

We just got our assignments today for the July 9th Wonder. Booked 2 GTY12 and got 2 Cat 9s :)

This is the great mystery of DCL. We booked 2 GTY12's last year and got 2 cat 11s. Grlzmom booked the same thing a few weeks ago and got cat 9s. :confused3 (we're on the same cruise)

I'm happy for her! :thumbsup2 The way I see it is I paid for the 12s so anything above that is a bonus; just don't understand the how/why of who gets upgrades? Maybe it's DVC members or CC members? :wizard:

Oh, and I paid the fuel surcharge that did not get refunded. :sad2:

Maybe you got cat11s that sleep 3? We are four in each room and possibly all the cat11s that sleep four were all booked already. They had to put us in rooms that sleep four each and guessing that 9s were the lowest category they had left that sleep four?

we have a March 2010 cruise booked and we used a travel agent. We were already asigned cabin 6053. Is there any chance of an upgrade since we already have an assignment and booked through someone besides directly through Disney?>

Anyone can be upgraded as discussed on other threads. There is no rhyme or reason to how DCL determines who gets an upgrade. Upgrades are rare however, except if you book 4 people into a cat 12. That guarantees at least an upgrade to a cat 11 since 12s only sleep three people.

I had to go and check my reservation because I was affraid that we had gotten a cat 12 with 4 people booked by mistake but it was a cat 11. Whew! Taht is one less worry.

now that is close!

I did not know you could have GTY luggage tags--I just figured they had to give you a room before sending out tags--see I learned something new.

It must be disappointing for some people to book the same thing same cruise and see a big difference in what is assigned. It would be so interesting to know if they have any plan behind it or if the pull a name out of a hat.

I was going to book the cat 12 gty to save money, but travelling with my sister in law I wanted the split bath. I also did not know about the inside cabin. My parents had a sideways cat 11--seemed very roomy, but I HATE the dark, so wasn't sure. I booked what I figured we would be happy with-this way we can have the balcony-even if it is enclosed.

On our Feb crise, we booked in Dec. We had a 12 gty (4ppl). We got our room assignment about 35 days out. We booked on board for Aug 22. a 11 gty. No assignment yet.

Now some of the people on our meet board are already recieving their cabin #.

Is the general rule that they wait till about 30 days out to assign the room, or do they do it as assignable rooms come available? I just booked a cat 11 gty for the EBTA, and while I think there really aren't any cat 11s left, I'm sure some will open up at final payment or maybe even before.

Maybe that's it? :goodvibes

Why does DCL continue to allow 4 people to be booked into a cat 12? Certainly they've figured out this strategy?

LOL! It is DCL's strategy to fill the ship. ;) They know what they are doing which is why you don't always see cat 12s available.

so can you sign up 5 people and know you will be upgraded to a way higher cat?

maybe an overall lowering of prices would fill the ship

does anyone know if most sailings are full this summer? We just booked a few weeks ago for the July 30th Wonder and were surprised to get main dining. Our previous experience was that it was hard to get

The bulk are assisgned about 35>30days, they do not tend to do it as they go along, however, I am aware of cases when they have done so, so you cant say never. They try to be fair so if they assisgn for one, anthoer cruiser might not be happy. Leaving on GTY, gives them the flexibility to accept paid upgrades and new booking for a longer hence more money income.

Most ships are sailing full as usual, however there are more upgrade opportunites reported at port, and more offers avaialble on higher Cats so it looks like people will cruise, but this year are looking for 'cuts' in cruise budget.

Nope, if you're a group of 5 or more you either book a high category (which is very expensive) or you book 2 cat 12 cabins like grlzmom and Narnia_girl did.

The ships may not be sailing at peak capacity this summer, but I doubt you'll see on overall lowering of prices. I think the closest DCL will come to that is a few special offers. ie: additional onboard credit, kids 1/2 off etc.

DCL does offer some significant discounts to fill the ships when they need to, but they're targeted deals. ie: CM rates, TA rates, Military discounts, Florida resident rates. They've even sent out at least one pin code this year (kids sail free deal) I don't remember ever hearing about a DCL pin code before.

This has been discussed at length on other threads, and right or wrong, I think the general concensus has been that offering across the board discounts could be perceived as cheapening the brand and/or make it more difficult for DCL to get prices back where they want them once reccessionary pressures ease.

well, no upgrade for us-but I booked what we'd be okay with-we are on deck by the theater.
I will still hope to upgrade at the port, but I saw they are offering TA discounts to fill up the ship

I would guess that most cruises are going out close to full but this is only because of the specials that DCL offered earlier to do this...$99 bounceback, kids free, kids 50% and the increased number of FL resident rates and military discounted cruises.

There is no rhyme or reason as to who gets upgrades beyond the fact that if you are a family of 4 in a 12, you will sail in at least an 11.

Sometimes cat 12s are offered for 3 or 4 people, other times only for 3 people. We had 2 "triple cat 12s" on our last trip and were unable to make them "quad 12s". Interestingly, we were upgraded to 2 cat 10s that each would have held 4 people.

Upgrades are not based on being DVC members, Castaway Club members, or anything else that people have been able to figure out. I wonder if it has anything to do with how much you spent on your onboard account on your last cruise, but even that doesn't seem to hold. You can be upgraded whether you booked with an assigned cabin or a gty, but when we had an assigned cabin we were phoned and offered a free upgrade rather than just being assigned it.

Generally gty cabins are assigned 30 days or so out, but some have been coming out earlier this summer. Yes, the ships will sail full--the question is what DCL had to do to fill them (FL res discounts are available this summer!)
