Should I cancel my cruise for July 4 and book a GTY to save $1300? Oh, yeah, I get an extra day! Does booking this close mean I get the worst room? This is our 1st DCL cruise and I have 48 sleepless hours to decide. DH was having second thoughts on the priceperday!

I would do it!
Extra day and cheaper?!? They could put me in the belly of the boat if they wanted, lol, I'm never in the room all that often anyways :)

Depends for me. Which guarantee? How does the lowest level room for that guarantee category compare to your reserved room? Would you be happy with that room if that's what you got?

Do you mean a gty cabin or do you mean a restricted Igt/OGT/VGT booking?

If you are looking at the restricted bookings, be sure that you are OK with the restrictions. Does it mean the worst cabins?--No. It means otherwise unsold cabins. People booking VGT have ended up in cat 4s!

I'd do it especially if my dh was concerned about cost per day! $1300 pays for a lot of excursions or it could be saved toward your next Disney cruise! :yay:

Are you in penalty phase yet for the July 4th cruise...it is pretty close? If so, then you have to figure the penalty amount against the savings....will you still come out ahead? Will the savings be worth your switching and giving up your current cabin.

You can't just switch to one of the IGt, OGT or VGT fares...you have to cancel your current booking (which means a cancellation fee if you are in penalty phase) and then rebook the new reservation.

Price it out and see if it is worth it.

If you are not in penalty phase then I would definitely do it.

If you bought trip insurance outside of what Disney CL offers you likely lose that and would have to buy a new policy. But I would cancel and go for a longer trip for less $!

Finally got a chanc e to write back and say THANKS for the great advice! I canceled the 4 night and booked the 5!! I was not in the penalty zone and lost no $ at all. YaY!! 5 days!! I'm thinking that I can do a family day on a stop at CC and an adult beach/massage day on the next! Now I can book a massage with the extra $ - any other suggestions? I also want to know if I can book palo/remy/spa after I'm' already on board?

hope it goes well for you. one gal in our FE got upgraded to a cat 4. i got cabin 5188 which IMHO shouldn't count as a verandah room at all.

:(

Depending on the insurance company, you can move your policy from one trip to a different one. I have done so several times.

Tell me more...is it the size of the verandah? The obstruction? Can you sit out there?

I had the DCL insurance and the agent at DCL transferred it as well as my deposit amount! I just had to pay the difference up front w no right to cancel.

I'm also curious as to what a cat 4 is. I have read references to cat 4 a couple of times today. I can't log onto the official website on my iPad, for some reason!

It is aft near the curve, so the balcony is shaped like a triangle losing some of the square footage. Do a cabin 5188 search and you should find a picture.

I would take that room with the deal you have. Less money and one more night!!!! Now if I paid full price and got that room, well I would be mad. I had a full wall balcony on the Wonder that was a little smaller too. It was an upgrade and I was happy!!
:):):)

I did the same thing to save $900, so I'd say yes!!!
