has anyone ever found that they saved money doing a GT (or military) rate after the pif date, taking into account the loss of deposit. I didn't do OBB, so the only $ to be lost would be deposit. Just curious.

Yes, it's possible to cancel a cruise (with the penalties) and rebook with the *GT rate and still come out ahead. We've done it.

I have a 5E GTY right now on Fantasy. If we don't get a great room from this, to go VGT will save us $450 (Rebooking through Costco and getting that discount of $230 rather than through Disney direct)

On a past cruise, we had an OBB booking discount + the credit and of course VGT came out 2 days after the PIF date passed. We cancelled our 7a room, lost the deposit and the on board credit from Disney and STILL came out ahead. I think we saved around $600 after everything! Then we got assigned another 7a and upgraded at port to a cat 4 for a few hundred dollars.

We booked our Panama Canal opening day and price never increased and I almost cancelled prior to PIF but didn't. GT rates came out and I cancelled so we lost our on board credit and for 2A/1C still saved over $2,000.
We ended up with great cabin, wonderful neighbors that were also our table-mates that our now friends. It worked out great!

Perfect examples of what I'm hoping for!

We are debating this for our late January cruise. If we did it we would come out about $300 ahead. I am not sure if it worth it for that amount.

Just to let you know if you do decide to do it. They can transfer the money from your current reservation to your new GT reservation and then refund you the 300.00. It takes about 5 minutes on hold for them to do it. Very easy.

Thanks! I ran all the math again and we would save $250 or so. I am nervous that we would get a noisy cabin. :confused3

If i Already had a stateroom booked in a prime/fav location, I probably wouldn't cancel and rebook GT. Unless the savings after Penalties were substantial.

Are you booked in a Oceanview? I don't think I would book a room on deck 2 without choosing my cabin. If it's a verandah I probably would take the chance. We have been assignment better staterooms than I would have paid for had I chosen my room. We have always gotten 5a's with our GT reservations.

Why? I was on deck 2 of magic with ocean view and LOVED it! I would actually request deck 2 next time. Not noisy, close to restaurants and shops, very nice

There are some noisy rooms on deck such as the under the night club, and bars. There is nothing wrong with deck 2, but I think I would want to choose my location.

We are in a 5c on deck 7 now. There seems to be at least some availability in all the veranda categories. I would love to get upgraded to a Cat 4 but I am not sure how often that happens.
