great thread- sorry for adding my own question- how do you actually "package" the photo mat when you hand it in? So I bought 2 mats and a bunch of the large ziploc bags. I will buy sharpies and candy- do I put the mats in individual bags with markers in each and a bag of candy in each? if so, wouldn't the mat be bent or damaged with all of those things rubbing up against it? I bought a mat and frame together so the mat is not individually wrapped- I will take it out of the frame and bring it in a padded mailing envelope. Thanks! I'm so confused!!

I packed mine in my suitcase between clothes, so it laid flat. It didn't get damaged at all. Maybe you could put sharpies in 2 bags, and tape one to the back of each mat, and hand the in that way? I'm not sure, since I only did 1. I would assume they would take 2 mats and 1 bag of sharpies.... Just write your name and room number on all 3 pieces. As for the candy, it doesn't have to be attached at all, just hand it to the GS cm when you turn it in. I just said, "this is just a thank you gift for the people doing this" and she knew exactly what I meant.

Eta; I just saw about you bringing it in a padded envelope.... You could just give them that, the bag, and the candy separately with your name on them

You can just put the photo mat and sharpies in one big zip loc and hand the candy over for Mickey and his friends. Our first cruise I did the photo mats and the last cruise I did 3" Vinylmations for my kids. Guest Services will ask you if you want Mickey and Friends, the Princess or both to sign the items. Best thing is you don't have to wait in the long lines for autographs!

here is a photo of our mat. we did a black mat with silver sharpie. we gave them childs play candy, and they loved the childs play mix candy

That's a nice idea with the black. I have the same sticker at the bottom on the one I had signed! Too funny.

I did a red mat in May, and turned in gold/ silver sharpies. Both of the sharpies were returned with the signed photo mat.

I put everything in a big ziploc bag when I turn it into guest services, and when its returned to my room, its in the same ziploc bag.

thank you all!!! :worship: what awesome responses and other questions!! My dd and ds are going to be SO excited when we surprise them!!!!:hyper:

:goodvibes

Just a word of caution. We gave guest services a photo mat and a quilt square on the first night of a seven day cruise. Both came back the last night, candy missing and no signatures. We did complain at guest services and they took the items a second time. We got both back as we were leaving the ship. This time the quilt square did get signatures but still not the photo mat. :confused3 We had a separate bag, markers, and candy for each item.

If you are worried about the fram getting bent make sure you put it in a bigger ziplock bag and dont put in every big bags of candy.I just put in 2 bags of lifesavers and some packs of gum.I would probably add more gum than anything cause you cant buy gum on the ship

Does anyone have a picture of the pillow case? Do you just use the sharpie on these also? Just booked first cruise for Sept 2013. :cheer2:

I'm so with you on this! If I'm buying the pillowcase, sharpies and candy "tip", wouldn't it just be easier to do the signatures myself?

Do you know how to sign everybody's autograph? Also, then the pillowcase will be signed by you and not by "Mickey" and gang.

If you bring a plain pillow case to the front desk with sharpie markers, they will have characters sign it for you. I'm wondering, does the sharpie wash off if you launder the pillow case?

I wonder if instead of sharpies on the pillowcases, if fabric pens would work better?

I wanted to thank DIS for all the threads about this. We did a photo mat and it came out great! I included two sharpies (red and black) and a white mat. I put it all in a 2.5 gallon ziplock with some candy.

I did not get the sharpies returned to me (which is fine) eventough it was noted on the form that I included them. Also they just used the one pen (black), which also was fine.

In the end I was very happy I did this!

We did pillowcases on the Dream and got our whole bag of Sharpies back. Our girls use them everyday (against my recommendation otherwise!). Signatures are all the unique signatures from the various characters. They asked if we wanted as many as possible, so the case is thoroughly covered with everybody.

Anybody know if they would accept the large white blank Vinylmations? We are on the Fantasy in December.

Yes!!! You absolutely can have vinylmations (big or small) signed! I did white 9" with multicolored sharpies, wanted black with silver but couldn't find a black 9" vinylmation. Also had a black photo mat signed in silver, both came out AWESOME!!! If you search or even google autographed vinylmations it will take you to the thread for pictures!!! :thumbsup2
