are headed to Disney!!

Hello everyone,

Ive never done a pretrip report and only 1 trip report before. Mainly because we havent been on a vacation in many, many, many years!!

A little about us: Im (Excited)Tammy , just turned 49 in Feb, (Grumpy)Kenny is my DH, he will be 53 in June I will introduce Curious in a little bit . We have been together 27 yrs in Sept, married 21 in March. We have a total of 4 sons (3 are my stepsons ages 35,32 , 29 this yr and our son will be 25), 2 DILs, 1 future DIL, 7 (my step)grandkids (18 yr boy, 16,14,5,5,3 yr old girls & 6 yr boy) and 1 (my step)great grandson 1 yr old. The 4 oldest grandkids belong to my oldest stepson, he had his 1 baby @16, there are 3 different mothers involved with his children.

When our son went to college @ 18, my DH bought a Harley and our plans were to take lots of trips! Note our plans WERE to do this. God had other plans we soon learned. My oldest stepson got divorced (her choice) and basically went mental, quit his job and drinking became his career. He becomes involved with a girl that has 3 kids (her ex-husband has full custody) guess what??? They have a baby on the way. DH & I know since he has alcohol problem, she has pill problem this child will not stand a chance. There are already 6 kids between them that neither will support or see. They think that all parents will just dish out money for the grandbaby. Long story short they called when baby boy was only 4 days old to see if I would keep him overnight, which turned into all weekend, which turned into every weekend, then all week. At 4 months left him with us, at 9 months DH & I were granted custody of him. They were to get their act together, either as a couple or separate and take him back, well she cheated , had another baby (wasnt stepsons) gave him up for adoption, they split up, both have spent lots of time in jail and during all this a wonderful little boy just celebrated his 6th birthday in January!! We consider him OUR (Curious)DS and both parents have little to no contact with him because our rule for visitation is they have to visit our home drug/alcohol free. They choose not too, and no way am I letting either of them take him anywhere!! Both of his blood grandmothers have also chose to basically ignore him! He is in kindergarten, calls us mom & dad half the time, nana & pa the other, knows without a shadow of a doubt he is loved and that he can depend on us for anything.

Our son still lives at home, has a bachelors of business administration and a bachelors of science in sports management, works for minor league baseball team, has a terrific girlfriend in another state and treats his little nephew like his little brother! Both stepsons and their wives also are great with him!

As I said we havent been on a vacation in forever for various reasons mainly my mothers health (she passed away in July of 2008 but was in very bad health since 2004). Short weekend trips mainly for DS college graduation (2011), great nephews college graduation (2011) and DSs girlfriends college graduation (2012). Are you seeing the pattern??

I suggested to DH that since we arent getting any younger and my MIL & (step)FIL wanted to take DS with them to the beach last year, he really wanted to go but wouldnt cause nana wasnt going that we should put income tax to fun use this year and go see Mickey!! We havent been since about the time AK had just opened! Since we use to stay with his father in Lakeland and only went to Disney 2 days, deep sea fishing (that his dad went with and paid for) DH was like income tax& how much is this going to cost us? (His father passed away in 2006) Told him I would get back with him and started the research!! :scratchin

I just wanted to give you a little background and hopefully you experienced Disney people can offer lots of tips for our trip!!

Hope I can figure out how to add a ticker soon!

First the dates….. I work as church secretary and custodian for our small church so any time works for me, DH has to put in advance for his (factory worker), school isn’t over till the end of May. Vacation Bible School is usually first full week of June, DS6 only got to go 2 days last year because of strep throat so he’s already been asking about this year so that week is out. Couple other June events that I feel committed to attend so we are now to July. Guess I’m crazy but since school will start Aug 5th with teacher meet & greet July 30th and since I knew DH would want to drive I decided on July 6th through the 20th!! OK dates picked now…….

Checking with DH’s cousin in law that worked at Disney and retired. She has always been our 2 day free park hopping, how many people, I’ll meet you at the gate lady!! She’s not sure of blockout dates yet but sure she can get us in 2 weekdays, just let her know when! On to………

Where to stay????? Have never stayed on site so that’s where I check first….cheapest room only (no tickets or dining) over $2200 no way we can afford that!!! Next hotels/motels still expensive, maybe this vacation isn’t going to happen  where to check next….. friend suggest vacation rentals by owner (vrbo)
Prices are slightly better but can you trust them. I don’t know anything about Orlando area so pick 4 different locations, emails 2 owners from each location with dates, checking price. Replies starts coming, no one gives any details, discounts just price until THE email arrives, very friendly, info about how far from Disney, Universal, etc. and if we really want to book condo for 14 nights, discount rate of $55 night, waive security deposit, with tax and cleaning fee……under $1000. I’m still leery so I go check reviews again everything sounds great! Praying I make right decision tell her we’ll take it! So 1 bedroom condo @ Legacy Dunes reserved, deposit paid. On to….

Following along and hope to offer some help and suggestions. I will start by saying that I have rented VRBO in Orlando many, many, many times with absolutely no problem.

Following along. You are going to be there at a very hot time. How are the crowds for July 4? Plus Two free Disney Days? That is wonderful.

Are you able to share which properties you have used successfully?

Great to know you haven't had problems! I haven't had any second guessing myself over decision so believing it will be a great condo! I welcome all suggestions and will probably have a ton of questions!!

Yes going to be very hot but so busy when school lets out the end of May, and since VBS is first week of June plus couple of other things along with DH & DS birthdays end of June was time that worked for us.

We won't be there for 4th of July but I've heard it's VERY busy especially MK!

2 days free is great!! Last time we went she got all 5 of us in free for 2 days with park hopping included!! She may be able to get us in more but I'm only budgeting 2 free!

I've been sick the last few days, still very congested and feel blah. On to the planning.....

What were going to do&.. DH has never been an amusement park kind of guy so when I tell him weve got 2 days at Disney free, how many more days do we want to go, his reply, "isnt that enough?" My reply, "since we may never make it back again, no I want at least 1 day per park so thats 4 days mister!" :dance3: Ask him if we want to go to water parks, Seaworld, Universal??? He finally tells me whatever as long as we go all day deep sea fishing from Clearwater and visit Daytona beach and you can budget it go for it!!

Just what I wanted to hear!!! :cheer2: He then adds 2 more request to my already scrambled, excited, confused mind...

1) He wants to rent a car instead of driving our minvan so that way if we have car trouble they have to take car of it and we won't be putting over 2000 miles on ours.

2) Instead of leaving Sat morning can we leave Friday morning!!!:dance3:
First up: check about adding night to condo.....no problem got it!!!

Next car rental: decided on a large size car instead of a van since it's the 3 of us. Not as bad as I was expecting. To pick the car up on Wed. July 3rd @ 5pm and return Mon.. July 22 @ 8am with unlimited miles $611

Agenda as of now::

July 5th leave Tennessee by 6 am, with stops to eat, gas &
bathroom and time change arrive 9pm or so

July 6th shop, explore, visit/dinner with relatives

July 7th Animal Kingdom

July 8th Epcot

July 9th Daytona Beach

July 10th Magic Kingdom

July 19th Coco Beach

July 20th leave

These dates / places are not set in stone the only things that are for sure to accomplish are Disney parks, deep sea fishing & Daytona.

Any opinions on Universal /IOA with a 6 yr old. He has seen Spiderman & Harry Potter so that's why he wants to go.

I have not been to Universal/IoA since they opened Harry Potter so I can not speak to that. I will say the Spiderman ride is awesome. However, IMO there is not much to do at IoA unless you are a thrill ride lover. Last time we went my then 10year old daughter who hated roller coasters spent alot of time in the child swap area while my older son who loves roller coasters had a blast.

In my head I classify Universal and IoA as amusement parks but I do not classify Disney parks that way. There is so much to experience at Disney that has nothing to do with rides(especially thrill rides).

Thanks for input!! I'm not sure how DS6 is going to do with alot of rides anywhere! He usually doesn't have a problem wanting to try a ride @ local fairs but I don't want to ride something and that ruin our whole day if he really doesn't like it!

He loves hunting & fishing so much I really believe the deep sea fishing, Gatorland & air boat ride will be his highlights of the trip!!! I've tried getting him to watch Disney trip DVD, youtube and Disney info when it comes on tv, he's just not into!

We got news recently that my niece (3 yrs younger than me) has stage 3 melanoma skin cancer, lots of rush test scheduled, ct scan, xrays, full blood work, pet scan, my planning has taken a back seat to lots of prayer time!
Her results will influence our plans! She should have all test results in a few days! BELIEVING IN MIRACLES!!

Rental car is taken care of! Pick up 4pm Wednesday, July 3 return 8am Monday, July 22nd!

Found out last night my best friend of 35 yrs will find out Thursday if she needs heart surgery! Niece should find out Friday if cancer has spread. I can't focus on what needs to be planned next for trip until I know they are both ok!

I got my new sling bag & wallet in the mail. Not sure how well I'm going to like the bag, we'll see.

When I finally take the time to figure out how to post a ticker, I will try to learn how to post pictures too and try to get some posted!

Sounds like you have some great plans in place. I have also rented from VRBO and it was a wonderful experience. The owners were very responsive, the price was fantastic, and the property was absolutely wonderful to stay at.

Glad to hear that you have had good experience with VRBO! I'm keeping check on the reviews for the condo we've rented, had another positive one posted recently!

Has anyone ever felt like the universe was plotting to keep them away from Disney?? I'm beginning to feel that way with my niece & best friend's health issues and now having trouble with stepson, thought things were settled today but found out afterwards he has appealed court's ruling today so I will either have to use another vacation day (had to use 1 last week & 1 today) or miss a day's pay! I should note that it has nothing to do with custody!

Ok rant over, now can anyone suggest an airboat tour that we could do? I've looked at some online would just like to hear from anyone that has done one!

GREAT news for my best friend, no heart surgery needed!!

Prayers needed for my niece, they did surgery on the cancer spot on her jaw, just got test results back they DIDN'T get it all removed, last layer they removed still showing cancer cells. They are worried if they go much deeper it could cause that side of her face to droop or be paralyzed. This type of cancer doesn't respond to chemo or radiation so please remember her!!

Thanks for the prayers, she meets with dr. Monday to discuss the next step!!

I'm doing some small shopping along the way.....Bought a pack of 6 Colgate toothbrushes, 2 tubes of toothpaste, band-aids, all marked down @ Walmart, already packed 3 toothbrushes, 1 tube toothpaste, and the band-aides. Finally returned a coffee pot and a couple of DS birthday presents that I didn't have receipts for so I have almost $73 on a gift card that I'm thinking of going and getting me a new bathing suit, some other odd & ends we will need for vacation!

Also have a $40 Disney gift card, $25 Red Lobster, $25 Logans Roadhouse, $50 Cracker Barrel and another $20 Wal-Mart card.

DS has a counting bank and he has over $40 that will be his spending money! He found 3 pennies in the Kroger parking lot the other day and said "Look more Disney money!!"

Can't wait, in 17 weeks I will wake up in FL!! :cheer2::rotfl:

Niece meet with dr today, nurse didn't translate the report to her correctly.... surgery got all the cancer!!! All she has to do is checkups/testing every 6 months for the next 2 years!! PRAISING GOD!!!

Got a few more things today.... couple of short outfits for DS,
In-Laws got him couple pairs of shorts & swimming trunks, shirt & flip-flops.
I got me a new swim suit & shoes and pajamas! Picked up a camera case, pack of 3 fashion camera straps & a memory card!

Slowly counting down!! :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :cool1:

That is wonderful news! It must be such a relief for your family.

It's a huge relief & blessing! I was having second thoughts about vacation if she still had cancer!

I feel like I have a million things to do before we leave and don't know where to start. DS24's fiance is coming in this weekend to spend a week (she's a speech pathologist, teaches in preschool/elementary & works part-time at hospital) excited to see her!

Think I'm going to preorder the photopass+ soon! Anyone used it, what did you think?

I've got to make a checklist to keep myself focused or I will be up all night when we leave stressing myself out!!

Can't believe March is almost over!! July 5th is going to be here before I know it!! Talked to cousin-in-law that is getting us in free, blackout dates are not posted yet, should be sometime around the first week of April! As soon as I know if she will be able to get us in I'm going to order the tickets we will need from undercover tourist.

Still debating on photopass+. I'd really like some pictures with all of us in them, but don't know if I want to spend the $$$ not knowing how many pictures we end up with!

Kind of wishing I'd made some ADRs but not sure DS is going to really care about the characters!

So many decisions, so many plans to make, my head is spinning!! I'm just counting down to 6am July 5th.

Has anyone had a child that is NOT excited to go to Disney World??? Gavin is just worried about going to the beach and fishing!! I think DH is rubbing off on him!!

DH told me he didn't really want to go to Disney 4 days:worried: I let him know I wasn't crazy about an all day fishing trip and Daytona (cause I know he's going to check out the speedway) We didn't talk anymore about vacation. Tonight we talked, agreed this was about ALL of us having a good time I told him about all the info I had discovered here, on easywdw, trip advisor, etc. He's back on board with all four parks as long as I take charge of where, when, etc.

I'm going to be needing help with each park plan! Where to go first, best place to eat without ADR, any other tips all you experts can provide! Park days as of now are:

Planning to make RD at each park!

Sunday, July 7th - Animal Kingdom, heading to safari first thing, should I grab a fast pass for EE or Rapids ride first?

Monday, July 8th -Epcot should we head to TT or Soaring first? What next?

Wednesday, July 10th - Magic Kingdom there's so much here I have no idea what order to do what!!

Friday, July 12th - TSM first and have to find Phenias & Ferb they are the ONLY ones DS wants a picture with!

Any suggestions are WELCOMED!!:wave2::love:
