Alcohol may help preserve brain health

By Charnicia E. Huggins
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Elderly men and women with a history of mild-to-moderate drinking may experience less mental decline over time than seniors who do not consume alcoholic drinks, study findings suggest. The findings imply that mild-to-moderate alcohol consumption may play a role in helping preserve cognitive function.

You know, my grandparents could be a case study for that! :rotfl:

And speaking of work ... congrats on your job!

Just wanted to say that I am waiting on baited breath (well, between gulps :drinking1 ) for the next installment, and the next, and the next.

You said it, sista. I'm still getting to help people -- but working with a kinder, gentler population. :sunny: Although today, a 9-year old did call an English teacher a white cracker. She should have corrected his grammar. Cracker already means white!

Thanks for hanging on, everyone. I probably won't be able to work on the next installment until this weekend. But I promise it's coming.

Well since we're still waiting this round is on me!! :cool1:

This is probably going to become the most popular place on the board!! Just as long as there's enough room at the bar. ;)

Both of my children are learning disabled and seven years ago we moved 30 miles of north of Philadelphia, to the Souderton school district, so that they could take advantage of what I think are the best learning support classrooms in SE PA. It was a tough decision, after living in the city for 17 years, but my kids, now 16 and 17, have thrived. Their teachers are making all the difference in their lives, now and for the future. Thank you for this career decision and thank you for these wonderful trip reports!!!

I don't know about ya'all (did I do that right?).....but I RESPECT Ally's reports.
I treasure them...........like a good piece of chocolate (I'm more of a chocolate eater than a drinker..........but I DO have a bottle of Kahula I've been enjoying this week... :goodvibes ......) >>>> I print out her report.........keep it close at hand at work....and every so often I 'treat' myself to a couple of paragraphs.....back to work.....then I need another 'report read treat'....and there I am reading another couple of paragraphs...............You'd think I was reading a novel!

I just LOVE your humor..............I wanna be like you!!!!

'belated' congrats on the job!.....My daughter (now 20) had some special ed classes since 4th grade.........(thus many IEP meetings).....

Welcome to the wild, wonderful world of teaching. Every day will be an experience. Some better than others, but an experience. When the weekend comes you will need more than a few bends of the elbow. :rolleyes1 Can't wait for next installment.

And thanks for all the well wishes on the job. So far I love it and all my kids are so sweet (well, some are sweet deep, deep, DEEP down!). I'm really hoping I can help them thrive with some love and structure. Most of them get neither at home. So thanks to all the proactive mommies and daddies out there. Learning doesn't stop at 3 pm!

I've got some coworkers like that...but it's pretty deep down.
:)
Congrats on your new job!

Your trip reports crack us up.

We've already got our reservations for F+W next year. If you're there, don't be surprised if you hear another Diser yelling your name. My wife says Kory and I sound alike, so it'd be a round at the pub on us!

Just popping in to see if Big Al has given us another installment.

Glad you had a good first few days at school. Think of them as Tootsie Pops, you get to the sweet center quicker if you just bite into it lol. Well, I'm not sure if that analogy worked but hey I tried.
