We were an hour late for school and work this morning due to circumstances beyond our control. Have posted this here before but this morning takes the cake. When we get up at 6:30 I tell DH, it sounds like a train is sitting down there running (we have to cross a RR crossing to get to and from our house) so he goes to check. Call to ask them to move it (remember federal law says they can only block the crossing for 10 minute intervals) and they say it will be gone in a few minutes. One hour later when we leave the house train is still there.......8:00 train is still there.......8:30 train is still there. It finally moved at 8:32 AM and it had been there before we called at 6:30. Needless to say, I am in a very black mood today! It started pouring rain when I got to drop DS off at school (did I mention he was one hour late) then when he got to the door he couldn't figure out how to close the umbrella I let him use (he wouldn't take DD's Tinkerbelle umbrella and had to use mine, I got Tinkerbelle). Fortunately someone else came in late right behind us and helped him before I could get out of the car.

Would really like to blow up those railroad tracks right about now.......I did email every elected offical in the state of Tennessee and also the TDOT and Federal Railroad Administration. Think it will do any good?

Need a little smilie to insert here with a black cloud raining on it's head.

I'd be mad, too. That's horrible. I think I'd be on the phone with every elected official I could find. Is the railroad commissioner elected in your state?

I'm not sure, I'll have to look up that information and find out. It makes me mad that this causes us to be late and sometimes we can't get home for hours because there is one stopped when we get in at evening. What makes me the madest though is there total disgregard that they are blocking the only access - what if there was a medical emergency? We aren't the only house on the road and one of the homes is my mom & dad who are in their 70's.

Also, anytime they decide to do crossing work (tear out the crossing and relay) it is always a whole day, sometimes more and they give us absolutely no notice......you go to get out or in and you can't, crossing is torn out.

Sorry!!

We had to cross the RR everyday to and from school, and in the mornings we have to rush so cross before the trains do their thing and blocked the road. Many times I have to drive a couple more miles to another bridged road.

Thanks. I wish we were connected to another road or they would put in an underpass or something. Maybe I'll get a response back from someone, I was pretty fired up this morning!
