almost $80/seat... this is Travelocity where I have had good luck several times in the past for the particular flight time we like... plus its a nonstop. Any other suggestions where to look.... I tried Expedia and Orbitz. They are the same. i am afraid to do Priceline because I don't want to get a flight they pick. i want a particular flight. Where else do you find your cost friendly flights?

Not sure when you were looking at these flights, but NEVER look for good flight prices over the weekend. They almost always go up. Look again on Tuesday and Wednesday. :thumbsup2

wow... seriously. so the same flight may cost more on saturday than it does a few days later on tuesday....

I agree...I always find cheaper flights listed on Tues, Wed., Thurs.

OP dont worry just sit tight for a few days. My sister is a frequent traveler and she says Wednesday is the day! Good luck!

Does Southwest fly from your local airport? They don't list on those sites.

Totally agree. NEver ever book airfare on a weekend...I would suggest that you watch the fare at least once per day and when it hits a point you are comfortable with, book it. I have gotten myself in a bind and did not get the flight I wanted twice now to get the lower price.

Never say never...the best airfare I found last fall for my daughter's trip home from college was on a Saturday. You just never know...all you can do is check daily until you hit your price point.

I was also going to suggest Southwest as you can modify your reservations to take advantage of price reductions, there is no fee and they give you a credit for the difference to use at a later time :woohoo:

thanks everyone. My brother suggested SW earlier to me. I would have a 30 min longer drive to airport, but may be after doing the math for 6 travelers, it would be worth it.

also... does SW play around with pricing through the week... like may I possibly find it cheaper on Weds... and we are looking at July flights. How long do I dare to wait it out?

When I was pricing flights for our trip this summer, I found it was way cheaper to buy directly from the airline. I priced it on Orbitz and Expedia and then on the airlines' website. It was about $120 cheaper to book online directly with Spirit than with Orbitz.

Southwest plays with prices a LOT. I booked a trip for May 2 or 3 weeks ago. I was watching prices everyday, because I was only booking if I found airfare in a certain price range. Wednesday of that week, the flights I wanted were $144 each way. Thursday of that week they dropped to $104 each way. I booked. The next day they were $149 each way. Of course the next week one of the flights dropped to $89 one way, but oh well. I took the credit, and I'll just sell it to one of my parents:thumbsup2

I agree, don't give up yet. Not only is it the weekend (when a lot of flights tend to go up), but it is also the weekend before a holiday. I've found they tend to jack the prices up around holidays as well...some people give vacations as presents. Check back later in the week.

Last week the flight I was watching on Midwest went up like $60. I was telling my dh that we needed to book soon because flights were going up. He told me to go ahead and book the next day. Well, when I went on in the morning to book it, the flight had dropped back down the the previous price. I was soooo excited I booked right away!! Oh, and another trick. Clear your cookies on your computer. My DH works with computers and he said they can read if you have been lurking that site, which could make them jack the price up just for you.

I agree. Every year I check prices at the same time on the Orbitz type sites at the very same time as the airline site. I have always booked directly from the airline because it's always been cheaper.

I noticed and was told, that the first time you search you get the best deal. If you think about it and go back, it will be higher because of the tracking cookies, try signing in on a different computer/ server, like firefox, and see what happens.
Noticed this once watching a car rental too.

well that is interesting..... what if you delete cookies....

My last few ticket purchases have been on Saturdays, and I had been stalking the prices for a while. Both times, they dropped on that day.

This time, I was watching prices from Newark to Miami. They had been $238 but jumped up. Then there was 1 ticket at $278 and the rest in the low $300range. Then there were 3 at $288 and the rest higher.

Then there were 8 at $288. I had a credit of about $244 so decided to just do it at $288. My net cost per ticket after taxes were added was $262 which is okay. Not great, but okay. It's getting harder and harder to find those great prices anymore.

We don't have SW flying out of Newark so we usually choose between Continental and JetBlue. I carry all my mileage on Continental, so even if I could get a few bucks cheaper on AA, I usually don't do it. Not worth losing the mileage for $20.

Maybe some flights on SWA change alot, but we stalked a few flights for several weeks and the prices never changed from day to day until they went way up in a flash. Bummer. They never did go down (we just got home from teh trip a few days ago). One thing to keep in mind about SWA is that bags are free...that does add up if you have a lot of luggage. Good luck!

I just got the deal of the century on american airlines ONT (Cali) to MCO, RSW (ft myers) back to ONT in Dec 2010 for under $300 per person...on a Sunday. I had priced it every day for about 2 weeks and it was up to $600 pp yesterday so I was totally surprised when I found it! Keep looking!
