OK to give a brief background to sort out this debacle:
I have worked at this job for 5 years through 5 managers. I found out I am making the same wage as everyone who hasn't been here as long. Now I get passed over for my yearly raise and to add insult to injury the new "manager" is fighting the vacation pay I had used last week saying I already used it. Then he says he will be gone for a week and wants me in charge.

What should I do, I have about bitten my tongue clear through trying to keep my mouth shut and telling this snot-nosed clueless idiot what to do with himself.:(

Are you looking for a new job?

Keep biting your tounge as much as you can. Are you able to prove your vacation issue? What reasons have they given as to why you have not gotten a raise?

When I was at my last "full time" job I had 3 managers in 6 months and each one thought my job description was something else. I finally used my pregnancy as an excuse to quit, when they were looking for a fourth manager and told me that I was still on my probationary period due to each manager giving me a different review.

Perhaps you should review your corporate policies and procedures and see if HR should get involved.

Do you have annual performance reviews? Are you rated an above average, average or below average employee? Have you thought about becoming the next manager?

I also agree, that if in 5 years time it's this bad, it's time to either find out what you can do to become that manager (if you want) or find new work. It's unfortunate, but the wages given to new employees often times do overlap what those already working make.

If you are not "management" material, nor strive to be, you shouldn't be left in charge without getting some kind of acknowledgement for it. If you do want to become management, ask your current manager what you need to do to further your career at xyz company.

Yeah, I was also thinking that you may want to go to HR.

Not sure how big a company you work for, but we just got taken over by a very large one. I noticed on their website for employees that you can report a problem with someone through the web.

One of my co-workers was having a problem with her manager and she sent in a complaint. The next day the manager brought in brownies for everyone trying to make nice.

I did interview for the position and didn't get the job. I do love my job though, I just want to be paid for what I am worth. I dug out the employee handbook and reviewed the vacation policy and will hit him with both barrels.

Be very, very carefull about how/if you tell your company that you know what others make. At my last job, talking about what you make was ground for imediate dismisal, no review, no second chances. It got out that people in my department made more than other areas (we also did 5x the work, but that's besides the point). They tracked the "leak" down to the person that first told a co-worker what they made, and they were escourted from the building, their personal stuff was shiped to them along with their last paycheck.

Of course you should fight to earn what you deserve, but don't get yourself fired in the process. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!
