Growing old

We bought at OKW in 1994 and now have 600 points. Our children were about 14 and 15 then (we had many previous WDW vacations).....There was a time when they really weren't too interested in WDW...probably for about 3 years ---I guess they didn't think it was cool!!!!!

They are now 27 and 28 (not married) and they just LOVE Disney......they now appreciate all the special times and magical memories that have been created there....we have taken our Aunt several times (at 87, 89 and 90---she has since passed) and you can imagine how precious those memories are.
We have had friends, family and also a family reunion there .... one of my cousins also bought at BW as she loved Disney sooo much (You should see her bathroom----all Disney)....she and her hubby went on a Disney Cruise and she loved it......She also has passed away....she was only 55. We all have wonderful memories and that is what is important in our lives.

We go to WDW several times each year.....my son now lives in Tampa, so he comes to OKW and we all have a great time.

We NEVER get tired of our DVC

For some people, too much of a good thing can indeed start to become boring. We may have reached our WDW saturation point since after 30 visits in the last 6 years, we find ourselves wondering if other vacation destinations might provide a pleasant change of pace. Maybe this isn't true for everyone, but I suspect stagnant vacationing patterns aren't as rare as one might think.

Consider also that many people who have had their fill of WDW will have sold their DVC interests and no longer post here. So the majority of responses you receive are probably from choir members who are still happy.

You know, DH & I have been going for many years now (15) and usually at least twice a year, and we have yet to get bored.

That isn't to say that we don't vacation a bit differently now than we used to. We are more apt to hang out and enjoy the resort a bit more. We do not feel the need to "commando" tour quite so much. We venture off WDW property on occasion, and tour the greater Orlando area.

As we grow older, I can see us continuing this trend of having wonderful accomodaitons to stay in, and enjoying the relaxation aspect of WDW more than the theme park aspect.

My wife and I have been doing disney since we got married over 20 years ago. Then we got my mom and dad hooked and after mom passed, dad would take the whole family every other year. Then after he passed in 2004, we realized how much we love it there and that's when we bought into DVC; we've been coming home at least twice a year since. After returning home-home this last may my wifes boss said that we should think of skipping disney for awhile before we get tired of it; she asked me if that was possible. After putting our photos onto dvd's we sat and were watching and realized something - we had taken this last trip at a slower pace! We didn't go on as many rides but rather enjoyed the fflower festival more by looking closer at what was there rather than running from attraction to attraction. This is what we loved most! We have "close-up" photos of the architecture through the different worlds as well as all the parks; we are seeing more of the details that make this place so magical. And with so many little details to see I don't think we will ever get tired of "Home"!!
So now we are waiting for the first week in December to see the Christmas decorations again, as well as planning to visit other resorts to see what magic they have strung up for the holidays. Oh and one other thing - now when we visit epcot I can take my time at the mexican cantina and have one of their margarita's; I'm not sure if they are the best I ever had but combined with disney magic they sure seem that way!

Thank you for sharing your story Tom, it is wonderful!

I am taking my parents to F&W in Nov. 80 and 77 they are both very excited. Hope I will be that way at 80 too.

Back when I was away at college, whenever I would come home, I would get this wonderfull feeling. Sadly, times change, my father passed away, my mom sold the home we grew up in. Now we are the "grownups". However, whenever my husband and I, along with our children, head to Disney, I get that same wonderful feeling that I got when I was much younger.

I was lucky to spend an extended period of time there recently. I thought that by the end of the trip I would be all Disneyed out. But, it didn't happen that way. We were able to see things that we previously missed. We would take a section of a park and focus on just that one section. there is so many little things that make up Disney that alot of it gets brushed over. We were also able to get into more conversations with CM's and other Disney guests and to focus on Disney trivia and tidbits.

I do dread the day when my children tell me that they are bored with it, but so far, so good.

Hi, DH and I are empty nesters, and we bought when we realized we go to WDW, more than once a year and it was the place that DMom wanted to spend her 85th birthday celebration.

Later this week we'll be down for DAunt's 80th celebration. I can't believe that it's been a year since I asked her if she would like to celebrate at WDW, we offered her family a 2 bedroom at BWV for 2 nights and they rented from Disney 2 additional nights.

By the way DMom is coming, even though it's harder for her to walk these days. This 87th year has been hard and she's going for a second knee replacement/leg alignment operation the day after we get back from WDW. I do ask for prayers for her successful operaton. Over the weekend, I asked if maybe it would be too much, this trip, but she says that she will take it easy, she doesn't want to miss being in the Magical place with us. She'll use a wheelchair when necessary. We're all at the BWV, so getting to F&W is easy, and she loves to taste the food at the booths, she's as excited as if it were her birthday party!

DH and I go ourselves as well, and the next time alone will be during December. We first saw Disney's Christmas offerings in '02, and we are absolutely sure that we want to go every December as long as we are able.

Bobbi :)

Great story, Bobbi! I hope that we will be celebrating our 9th decade birthdays with Mickey, too. It is heartwarming to hear about families like yours who include the seniors in their plans. Kudos! And enjoy your December visit. I'm hooked on that time of the year as well! DVC is just the best thing for making lasting memories.

We too are empty nesters. DW & I are both 49. We enjoy WDW differently now with more Epcot & AK interest, and less MK & MGM interest. We certainly could overdose on WDW, but we don't go there every year. We have rotated over a 3 year period... WDW resort, VB, HHI, cruise, so we will only visit there once every 3 years. We also like and plan to visit the national parks and take other weekend trips to historical places. We don't expect to ever grow tired of Disney/DVC. :goodvibes

There's a WDW experience for all of Life's Seasons!

I would definitely be over-Disneyed if I visited only WDW 5 times a year for 6 years. I enjoy other vacations too much.

i am growing old too. i purchase my first dvc 1 year ago after going to wdw with my grandchildren every year for many, many years.

my mother would not ever go with us because she insists that she does not like fantasy and wdw is all fantasy. what she thinks of as fun is not the same as what we think of as fun, we even enjoy seeing other people have fun. ----- point is my brother and i took her (age 85) on the adventures by disney trip to tour italy in sept. 06, and she loved it. it was a lot of walking, and i mean miles a day, and she does have a specific walking problelm. it turned out to be just fantastic. she was able to see all of the things she had always read about and wanted so much to see. and she gave in to fateague only 2 days out of 15, but the hotels were luxurious and she enjoyed just resting there. :cloud9:

disney does seem to have something for all ages and all life styles and interest. she now is thinking that she might enjoy epcot. i quess she just wants to see the world, and i hope she will be able to do so. :goodvibes

We had some pretty good times, so I don't regret going so often. But as the kids say, "been there, done that" so we've scaled back to a single trip a year as we take more time now to enjoy other vacation spots also!

That sounds like a great vacation. Good for you! Family vacations don't HAVE to be WDW ones! :) But I'm impressed, it was a Disney trip to tour Italy! We've done Europe, British Isles and Greece with mom and family, and we stick with cruises and cruise tours for the organization involved.
