Grove Park Inn - Any Recent Stays?

I booked 2 nights at the Grove Park Inn from the concierge collection. We will be stopping there in mid August before heading down to Disney World.

I searched the reviewes here but cannot find recent ones. Tripadvisor has such a mixed review.

I just received Biltmore Estate's mailings and the place looks amazing!!

Any recommendations in which building to stay (booked a property view room) and things to do, places to eat?

From what I have heard, the Stables is a great restaurant. I have 2 DDs who will just turned 6 and 9, tomboys though.

I haven't stayed at the Grove Park (I plan to) but have done the Biltmore Inn, which I thought was very nice. We did one of their Bed & Breakfast Weekend packages. I particularly enjoyed the food, dinner at the Bistro and breakfast at the Inn.

The Grove Park Inn is beautiful! We have always stayed in the original Inn rooms because they have so much character. The main building has a closet elevator with an elevator attendant. Really different and historic. The views are not to be believed! The spa? Don't even start. Save your $ because it is pricey but fabulous. Roaring fires outside, underwater music in the mineral pool, cool mint towels in the steam area. I could go on. You will love it.
It has a real turn of the century ambiance in a out of this world setting tucked away in an old Asheville neighborhood.
I have never brought my children here. It is really a very romantic retreat but I know they have children's activities and a kids club.
I bet you are seeing mixed reviews because some people expect flashy, over the top amenities and activities for their 4 star vacation $. This is not the Grove Park. The Grove Park is more of a relaxed, friendly, old world rustic experience. Really nice!

You'll love Grove Park! It's charming, friendly, and quite rustic (in a way, it's a "Blue Ridge" Wilderness Lodge ). There are wonderful galleries and restaurants in the area, aside from those in the hotel. The scenery is breathtaking!
Asheville is one of our favorite getaways; there's so much to see and do.

Enjoy, and take lots of pictures!

I love the Grove Park Inn. Make sure you schedule brunch, dinner or drinks on the Sunset Terrace to enjoy the view. As for Biltmore Estate, enjoy and wear comfortable shoes. Do a behind-the-scenes tour if you can. Send me a PM if you want more detailed information. I grew up in Asheville and worked for Asheville Area Tourism for a while so I have loads of info.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. How is the driving to get to Grove Park Inn? It is in the mountains and we are driving overnight to get there.

Mapquest says that we should be driving on Rt. 81 to Rt. 26 to Rt.19 (going from NJ).

26 is an interstate and 19 is a pretty large highway so they're not tiny, twisty mountain roads, but they're not straight interstates, either. I think the curviest roads you'll encounter are the last few miles leading up to GPI but they're not awful.

Have fun! And enjoy the Biltmore Estate. I was married there so it holds many, many fond memories for me!

I have stayed several times and love it. However, when I stayed using DVC points we were put in a section that was more convention type room than the historic section. It was pretty basic. We thought it had cheap furniture. which is an insult to North Carolina. But you will love the hotel.

they have a wonderful concierge floor, and the room service is great. Kids can have fun there too. big indoor pool.

But what ever you do, you must ask around for the Pink Lady. Just do it. It will make for a fun night.

Paige, that must be some wedding!! I appreciate your information. I do most of the driving, so knowing there are only a few miles of windy roads takes the stress off.

We would love to try the club floor, but they don't allow kids.

We stayed there in December and loved it. We had a property view and it was beautiful. We had a lot of fun at the piano bar in the evenings and spent a day in the spa which was wonderful. I hope you enjoy your trip.

I stayed there about a year and a half ago.

it's nice. However, the fancy pool you see in the brochure? You have to pay extra for that. (Personally I thought that was just false adverstising!)
