I am thinking of sending DMIL a groupon for car washes as a gift. If I purchase it as a gift and supply the e-mail address, what does it look like when she receives it? Is it the same as I would see it or do they take the amount off? Would that be a tacky gift? (I mean she already knows I am cheap, I mean thrifty ;))

Not sure about the first question, but I wouldn't hesitate to give a groupon as a gift! Actually I gave one to my dad for Christmas...I paid $75 for an introductory lesson to fly a plane, normally $150. No problem with that and he loved the gift although he hasn't had a chance to use it yet!

I've done groupons as gifts 2 times. I always print it out myself, and then "give" it to the recipient, along with a b-day card.
