I know one of the moderates can accomodate 5 using a trundle bed, but I'm having no luck on the search. Which resort is this? My sister and I are thinking of taking my 3 kids (4, 7, and 9) to Disney for spring break next year and I'm trying to find an economical way to go. We can stay on or off site. I checked the Holiday Inn Family Suites, but they're way too pricey. I can stay onsite for that! Any suggestions? I'm thinking the mod or even all stars with 2 rooms, but the mod would be cheaper. Anyone think we can beat it offsite?

Spring break prices are expensive both at WDW and off site. PO-R is a wonderful resort. The pools there and at the sister resort French Quarter are wonderful for kids. The extra magic hours available to resort guests only are fantastic during peak capacity times. The bus service is wonderful - no driving forever to get to the parks and waiting in a traffic jam to leave.

I'd say Port Orleans- Riverside in a room with a trundle. I don't think you'll be disappoinited!

MichelleB...

We have stayed with 5 at Port Orleans Riverside. You would really enjoy it there. Having stayed both on and off-site over the years I will also recommend staying on-site, especially during spring break. The parks are busy and getting those EM Hours makes a big difference!

You may want to consider two Value resort rooms (connecting) if you can get a good rate. This way you have two bathrooms, and the kids can nap in one room while the adults hang out in the other.

Otherwise, the trundle room at PO-R is a good deal too.

If you stay at POR be careful, I have read mixed reviews about it. Personally, I did not have a great experiance there. The transportation was horrible, and the food court was slow and unorganized, however, thats just my opinion. If you want to stay off site, try Vistana. I have stayed there many times and loved it. 2 rooms at all star would also probably be a good option.

Have you thought about the Fort Wilderness Campground cabins? We stayed there in January as a famly of four but they can easily accomodate a family of 6 plus an infant. The bedroom comes with a bunk bed and a full size bed, then in the living room area there is a pull down bed in the wall which is full size too.

We loved the space to spread out and relax, especially at night when my husband wanted to watch tv and the girls needed to sleep. You get a full kitchen too which helps with cost, we ate breakfast there every day and a couple dinners. You have a full deck and a grill outside too. Plus there is lots to do as far as entertainment for the kids right in the campground. Nightly campfire with Chip and Dale was a big hit with my two, ages 10 and 6!

I'm not sure what you are looking for cost-wise but by watching this site and mousavers.com I got a rate for our January stay of $149 per night - I think the cabins normally go for $225 and up per night normal rates.

Have fun wherever you end up!

PO-R is a WONDERFUL resort. We stay there quite often! Love the Bayou rooms... they are the ones with the trundle beds. And we have NEVER had any problems with transportation with the busses.

POR was great for our family when the children were younger. We loved it! We found the trundle bed to be very handy. :cool1:

Port Orleans Riverside does accomodate 5 with the trundle, but you may also want to look into a Coronado Springs Suite (also a moderate). I'm not quite sure what the difference in price is, though. I have gotten two rooms at a value before and thoroughly enjoyed it, also. It is basically whatever is best for your family, but I think staying on site is the best.

Stay at POR. It is a great resort. We were just there in July and had a wonderful stay. The room was clean, the food court was efficient and good, the quiet pools as well as theme pool are fun for the kids and relaxing for the adults. The boat transportation to DTD is convenient. I just love POR. It is my favorite moderate. I wrote a review of POR in July with some detailed information.

You will LOVE this resort. Have fun!

With the ages of your kids POR would probably be fine. My DH and I have 3DS-11,13,and 14. Two of my boys are taller than me and I belive they have to be under 9/10 to use the trundle. We opted for connecting rooms at ASSp. That way we get 4 beds and 2 bathrooms. They guarrentee the connecting due to the ages of the boys and that the kids out number adults. We ended up paying a total of about $125 more for the 6 nights. Totally worth it for us.

I had no idea (until this afternoon, LOL) that the price difference wasn't that much ($98.00 more) to get 2 rooms at a value resort vs. one room at PO-R. We have 3 children--15,10, and 4. We've stayed at Riverside before, love it. Just love it. But, the idea of TWO bathrooms for 5 people is very enticing :)

I know nothing about the value resorts--I'm thinking about Pop Century. I know there's no pool slide. But, it looks like a place my family would enjoy. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Pops Century when I went in 2004. Great oversized decorations and theming. :sunny:

If you are willing to stay offsite why not look into a Vacation home? We stayed in one (there was 6 of us: three adults and three children) in 2003 and it was FANTASTIC. We had our own private pool, and it was a full house...3 bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, tv vcr...etc etc. It took us about 20 minutes to drive to WDW and we were close to I Drive.

We stayed as a group of 5 at POR over Spring Break and loved it. We had one bus problem but when you do the math (Spring Break + Saturday + early EMH at AK + the WHOLE resort trying to go there = waiting for a bus) it made sense. Other than that the wait truly wasn't more than 15 mins ever, but I'll admit 15 mins can seem like an hour after the fireworks at any park. Overall I'd say the bus service and all the rest of the resort service was great! It was quite a bit cheaper to stay at POR than two value rooms for a week at Spring Break time, I don't remember the exact total but it was quite a bit.

we were all set to stay offsite, then along came free dining, LOL...I can get behind staying offsite most of the time, just not in October ;)

part of my hesitation is how much we enjoy PO-R. We keep saying we are going to try new places, but in reality we always rotate between the same 3 or 4. The thought of 4 beds, 2 TVs and 2 bathrooms is very tempting!

Are there fridges at Pop?

You can rent a fridge for $10/day at any of the value resorts. However, I remember having one in one of our three rooms at Pop when I was there in 2004 and don't remember having to pay extra for it. They are available though whether you must pay or not.
