I think a lot of the costumes people wear sound daunting, tbh.

@nancipants did you have a specific shirt design in mind for the birthday idea? Or were you going to just give an etsy (or similar) person the text you wanted and have them come up with the design?


Thinking that a bend on your idea would be as whatever disney character of your choice (you had mentioned minnie earlier), while including the shirt/slogan. That could open things up a bit for anyone wanting to costume/bound as a certain character for the marathon.

That sounds cool! I didn't have a specific design in mind. I found some birthday shirts from a few etsy shops. One says "Birthday Runner" and the other says "On Birthdays We Run".

YES! I wonder if one of the VIP tour guide costumes could be subbed for that, and then you'd have a vest printed onto the shirt (but the "wrong" pattern on the vest.) And I see people running the marathon every year with some massive purple Dopey beanie, so somewhere out there someone makes hats that aren't atrocious to run in. ALSO, tell your daughter she needs to join in

I am trying to figure out the 10k theme... it is epcot flag shirts... what does that mean? Like just the epcot countries flags? Anyone have pictures of example of this costume theme... (sorry out of all the themes this was the one I least understood at how this would look as a costume.)

I actually have that skirt that I wore the year the W&D was the passport/ travel theme. Doing Goofy, so I won’t be running the 10K. I guess I should pull it out for W&D again this year.

Circling back to the marathon.... I'm tagging those who responded in the voting (and if you didn't previously vote but want to join in the fun, please weight in!) Looking to get the ball rolling a little bit on this so we have ample time to scout for any sales/discounts for pieces needed to create a look, and have something to think about besides the hot summer weather.

I know we talked previously some about how to approach this via a common shirt/slogan on a shirt, or something similar. Is that how we still want to approach this? Anyone have any ideas for making it a little bit cohesive (if that's what we want to shoot for) or are we thinking of a more broad birthday [inspired?] look? I feel like we definitely need to shoot for something simple that can be accessorized to each person's liking since some of us will be out there for 7 hours.

Anyone have a great shirt design idea, or maybe you've seen one that we can make a *cough* copy of?


Previous discussions have included shirts with some sort of "On birthdays, we run marathons" which could also end with "we run 26.2" that could further be tailored for anyone running goofy or dopey.

OR, it could be something like "Running __fill in distance/challenge___ for my birthday"

Or it could be something completely different (birthday sash?). Please weigh in.

Thanks for bringing this back up! What about some use of or variation on the Disney celebration buttons they give out in the park? Like a shirt with a giant button printed on it where we could "fill in the blank"? I know a lot are celebrating birthdays (or those that are close to MW) but this would allow for anyone who isn't to also participate in the theme if they want to. Just a thought...

I love Mickey and Minnie's confetti birthday outfits! I wonder how annoying it would be to run 26.2 miles in a party hat? Or maybe I could make one to fit on a visor.



For shirt designs I'm all for anything printed on the front since I will be wearing a hydration vest so the back won't be visible.

I really like the button idea, as otherwise I won't be participating in the marathon costume. (I'll instead be joining the dozens of other's wearing a Goofy costume in honor of the anniversary. Although thinking about it, I could do the below birthday themed Goofy!)

Maybe we can get a high res copy of the below button and swap out the 'Walt Disney World' for 'Disboards'? Everyone could fill in the "I'm celebrating" as they like. The design would be easy enough to print and laminate, then people could choose to safety pin/glue/velcro/however they want to attach to their costumes.
