Ground was broken this week for Avatarland

So, if it follows the construction schedule of the mine train coaster can we expect to maybe see Avatarland by Spring of 2035?

Whoopty doo. Why this? Why not invest that money in a Star Wars Land? I'm really not into the films but I can see how popular they are. That would have been a homerun, especially when you see how well SWW does. Or why not take the time to really improve Animal Kingdom in a way that appeals to the masses? So many discuss how it is a half day park. Think about that. Most say you need to days at Magic Kingdom and Epcot and both of them could fit comfortably in Animal Kingdom. People say DHS is also a half day park and look at how small it is compared to Animal Kingdom. So much could be done to that park to make it phenomenal and this Avatar Land doesn't seem to be it. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't think they're getting the reactions on their FB page they were hoping to see. :rotfl:

As you can tell from my post count, I have been on the DIS for years.

I can not express how sad it is, day after day, to witness the overwhelming negativity here on the DIS, by the "young" group of posters.

Not sure what to do.

By the way OP I don't think you posted what you meant to in your first post. The link goes to one of the KTTW card threads.

Maybe hope that Disney responds appropriately to changing consumer expectations that no longer include the nostalgic value of 30 year old attractions as a top reason to spend thousands of dollars?

I love WDW and admire Disney as a company. But let's face it, they have been moving too slowly and responding in the wrong direction for many years now. I'm not "young" (I'm 53) but I do remember the original WDW and I don't see it having the same effect on my kid as it did on me when I was (almost) his age. There is so much other "magic" competing for his attention and interest these days.

There are competitive efforts underway in the Orlando theme park market that will (hopefully) spur competition, innovation, and value. I hold Disney to a high standard but I've also got my fingers crossed they rise to the occasion.

This. I'm sorry Hopefully but when it takes you 6 years (Pandora opens in 2017) from announcement to opening (hopefully) to build two rides and a shop and maybe a QS eatery, you know there's a problem. It's not just the "young ones" by the way.

I love the blue dude photoshoped into this picture!

So because you've been on the dis for "years", your opinion is more valid than those that haven't?

If you don't like the subject matter, threads are easy enough to pass by and ignore without chastising people.

it's gonna be a failure BIG Mistake, Huge waste of money
I don't think so I don't even think you will need to be a fan of the movie to be a fan of this expansion. At least they are doing something in AK.

I'm thinking they probably just meant that people are kind of negative towards it without giving it a chance? Whenever something new happens we all tend to get a little upset but a lot of times after we get used to it and learn more we are fine or even like it.

That said, would I prefer a SW land? Yes. I have never seen Avatar and don't really have a desire to. But, seeing the concept art it sounds kind of fun whether or not its themed to Avatar. The night time plants and elaborate scenery, a new night show, and I actually like that they are doing a boat ride. Of course I'd prefer a coaster, but that does for some reason tie the park into the rest to me. Giving it some classic disney.
