When we visit this December, both my parents will have wheelchairs. I am considering asking for a ground floor room. A search on old threads says there are only 15, and they are right next to Goofy’s ground school coaster. I still think it is a good idea, but looking for more current info or advice.

You would be much better served IMO requesting a room close to the Main Lobby or Napa Rose elevators...the rooms back by Goofy's Sky School are a hike and a half from the Lobby

So the elevators come frequently enough that we wouldn’t have to wait many cars to be able to fit 5 people and two wheelchairs?

Yes, we rarely travel with fewer than 8 people, with me on an ECV. Absolute worse case for us, when we have even more people and a stroller, we will split into 2 groups and we are rarely more than 30 seconds apart arriving to the room.
