GROSS trash bucket question

rkmommy, its funny that you posted this because here in connecticut it has been so hot and humid for a while and when I wheeled the trash can back to the house on Wed. a.m., I noticed more maggots than I have EVER seen in the past inside the barrel...I dumped it over and just sprayed it out...must be a maggoty summer this year!

Bleach.

Put a little bit in a spray bottle with water very diluted and spray the trash bag every few days while it's in the house, keep the flys out of the house as best you can. Then when you put the bags outside in the can pour a little bit of pure bleach in the can with the bag and try and keep the lid shut.

If you take the trash out on a daily basis you don't have to spray the can inside the house. Not only will it prevent the eggs from hatching but the bleach keeps the funk smell down so the flys don't come by as often.

I noticed the maggots last week. What I do in the summer is pour a little ammonia in the can and that helps.

We empty the trash every other day... I put some bleach in the bucket today before I put the first trash bag into it... I'll have to remember to spray the actual trash inside the house. That's a good tip becuase sometimes the trash inside smells, and I hate to waste a trash bag and take it out to the bucket if it's not full, kwim?
