I was hoping someone could help me find the closest and cheapest grocery store. We have a rental car so we'll be driving from the aiport to POR. Where would I find the best grocery store for a quick stop on the way. I don't want to be driving around in circles looking for one with 3 anxious and excited kids in the back seat screaming "are we there yet". Thanks for the help!

I'll add my questions to this. We're planning to take a town car and stop at Publix...does anyone know how much a cab to publix would be if we wanted to go back? I'd like to have breakfast and snacks in the room.

Thanks!

Beth

You can click here to go to Publix web site and do a search to locate a store near your hotel. You just need city and state or zip code.

HTH!

Glad you asked this question! We'll be driving down, and will probably need to stop somewhere before checking in to the hotel. I'm sure our snack supply will be diminished during our trip!

Just wondering if Publix was the best one to shop at and the cheapest or just the closest? Here at home the cheapest place to get groceries is the Wal Mart superstore and was wondering if there were any of those close by and if they are cheaper than Publix? Thanks guys.

I found in my Unoffical guide book, which is 3 years old, that there is a Publix on the corner of FL535 and US 192. Now if I just knew where these road were I'd be in great shape! Hope this helps!

Tomorrow is the day!!!...Hope for sun!!!

To get to the PUblix at the corner of 535 and 192, head off WDW property using Osceola Parkway. Once you've crossed over Route 4, the Gaylord Palms Hotel will be on your right. At the light with the Gaylord Palms on the right, make a right onto International Drive South. Continue Straight, and the PUblix is 3/4 of a mile down the road on the left.

Does anyone know how much a cab would be to get to that Publix? I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it to go mid-week.

Thanks!! :bounce:

Completely guessing, but probably $20 - $30 round trip, plus tip. It also would depend on how long you were inside, since I'm sure you'd be charged waiting time.

I would think if all you need is perishables like milk or OJ it would probably be cheaper to pay the high costs at the shop at the resort for those than to pay a taxi. Add up the cost of the items you need and then add in the taxi and if it's more than buying at the resort store then it would make sense not to go. Plus it would be alot more convient and less time consuming to buy what you need at the resort. That's just my two cents worth!

Hey I just had to add my two cents, by far the cheapest place to get groceries, and also all kinds of Disney items, seriously, Souvenirs, shirts anything, is the Super Walmart. The Super Walmart is on hwy 192 which is very close by WDW resort. Super Walmart is really the best way to go, we bought a lot of Disney items there, and they weren't too expensive either. This Walmart is the only one so if you ask anyone they will lead you in the right direction. It is right next to the Medieval Times restaurant. Do yourself a favor and go here instead of Publix, you can definitely save some bucks. Sorry Iam a big fan of Walmart!! Hope I helped ya Have fun

Pre-Order and Pick Up - The Albertson's supermarket at 12981 S. Orange Blossom Trail (Orange Blossom Trail exit from SR 417) will allow you to fax a list to them at (407) 857-0132. They will have your order packed and ready to pick up! You can call them at (407) 857-5666 for hours and details. (If you use Happy Limo to get from the airport to your hotel or condo, you can request a grocery stop on the way, and they do use this Albertson's.)

Delivery - Goodings, an upscale supermarket located close to Walt Disney World, allows you to order online and have the groceries delivered to most hotels and resorts in Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, International Drive, Celebration or Kissimmee. There is a $50 minimum order and a $10 handling charge.

I have also seen a company in Orlando that deliveries groceries to you at your hotel. You fax or email your order to them with a date and time of delivery and they delivery it with in 15 minutes of your order time. The company is WeGoShop.com

Great ideas: note, though, that Gooding's prices at that store are already astronomical. I would guess that if you're planning on spending at least $50 in groceries, it would be a lot cheaper to take a cab to the nearest Publix and have at it.

As has been noted, there is a Super Wal-Mart on 192 down by Medieval Times. That's a bit of a hike from Disney property, though. Other than Goodings, I'm guessing the closest real supermarket is the Publix mentioned before near Gaylord Palms. There's also an older Publix and Eckerds Drug Store right around the corner from Sea World.

By all means, though, if you're staying for more than a few days, getting to a grocery store and stocking up on things like soda, water, crackers, fruit, etc., is a good idea, that is unless you're made of money.

I am looking for a sheap store near OKW to buy some items that would not make the trip. Does anyone know of a place that would be easy to get to?
Thanks

We found that the Walmart SuperCenter fulfilled our budgetary needs. We did stop at Publix but their prices were as the prices back at our home town in New Jersey.

There is also a Winn-Dixie located just down the road from Goodings.
