Hi! I am planning a vacation in November and staying at the Villas at the wilderness lodge. I am planning on buying groceries to "fill the fridge." Would it be more economical to take Happy limo from the airport and stop at Albertson's grocery store, or take the disney bus from the airport to the resort, and then call a cab to go shopping? Please give any advice! Thank you so much.

There are a few choices just outside WDW as well.....

* Winn Dixie

* Publix - fairly new and very well stocked

* Super Walmart - full grocery, produce and bakery

We ALWAYS stop at a grocery when we are "inbound". Our next trip, however, we are staying in a 1 BR Villa at Boardwalk and having most of our shopping delivered. I am a diabetic so I will pickup the low carb and low cal things the delivery service does not handle + produce and bakery....making our lives FAR more easy.

Heck just not having to carry the bottled water, sodas, juice and my Jim's beer will save a section of trunk space!

We always have a rental car....but many of the Town Car/Limo services include a 30 minute stop at a grocery store.

TAKE A LIST - so you will not forget anything!

Ahhhhh, the Wildie ---- as Miss Scarlett says...."I'm pea green with envy, Rhett!"

Have fun.

I went through a phase where we'd always stop at a grocery store on the way in, but last September, we were at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and I talked Joe into just going straight to the resort, and getting groceries from the store in the WL lobby.

I have to say, it was a nice addition to the vacation's "feel" to not have to deal with the everyday drudgery of grocery shopping.

The prices in the store in the lobby weren't low, but they weren't outrageous, and the selection was adequate for what we needed.

Now, having said all that, my favorite grocery store is Publix. Their deli is *outstanding*! We're going to order a Thanksgiving dinner to go this year from there, I'm sure it will be delicious.

If price is your biggest concern, then your very very very best option is one you haven't considered: take the free Disney's Magical Express bus from the airport to WL, and arrange for a grocery delivery. The fee, ranging from about $10-$20, will be much cheaper than a car service ride from the airport, and cheaper than a taxi to and from the supermarket.

I've used Gooding's (www.goodings.com), a local supermarket that delivers. I'm impressed with the owner of the local Garden Grocer franchise (www.gardengrocer.com), a stand-alone delivery service. Another stand-alone delivery service franchise is WeGoShop (www.wegoshop.com), but I can't personally vouch for them.

In all my time around this and other Disney-themed boards, I've never read a big complaint about any of the above three.

If you like the idea of a car service, then go for it. But if you would pay for the car service ONLY for the grocery stop, then save your money. Same with the taxi thing. The delivery will save you money. AND the delivery will save you time ... you won't have to spend time going to a strange store, trying to find what you need, waiting in line, getting back and forth, etc.

Please post back if you have any questions on grocery delivery options.

Option # 4: Grocery delivery. See www.wegoshop.com, www.gardengrocer.com, www.goodings.com.

Each charges a service fee; two have a minimum. Most likely, even with that, grocery delivery will be cheaper than at least two of your options. On the other hand, shopping AT the resort, while likely more expensive than Publix or Walmart, is cheaper than a taxi or a town car.

eta: No fair! CleveRocks types faster than I do (and probably has a speedier Internet connection, too!) :teeth:

We were surprised at the variety of food items available at WL in the store, large containers of milk, frozen items, loafs of bread, cold cuts, canned foods. Plenty of choices. I did not think the prices were too bad, not what you would pay at your local grocery but not bad.

I have used wegoshop and garden grocer. and were very happy with both services. It was worth the small service charge to be able to have a case of bottle water, wine coolers or beer, some snacks, fresh fruit, Also diapers, wipes, sunscreen, shampoo things that are heavy for your suitcase.. The water alone paid for the service fee in what we did not buy at the parks. Our items were delivered ontime and just what we ordered.
Wegoshop you tell them just what you want and where to shop for it at- Sams, Walmart, Grocery. GG has a list to order from.

So shop before your leave on your vacation for your groceries, don't spend the extra time and money to go out shopping.
