We have booked our trip for the Marriott Newport Coast Villas and are wondering about grocery stores close by? Any experiences? Also, which beach would be best for 3.5 and 6 year old? We would like to have bonfire and investigate tide pools.......

Just down, south on PCH, less then 1 mile is a Trader Joes...Not a full grocery store but all the basics...lots of organic/healthy choices...No big brands like Coke, Doritos...Great beer and wine selection & cheeses too.

About 2 miles north in Corona Del Mar is an Albertsons...usually very crowded but full supermarket.

Up Newport Coast Drive is a Vons/Pavillion I think 2 miles...less crowded then the one in Corona Del Mar..

Not so sure about Bonfires on any beaches in this area.
Great playground on the beach at Main Beach in Laguan Beach, you'll see it.

Does that help?:)

We are going in July !!

There are firepits and tidepools at Big Corona beach and many tide pools at Little Corona beach. They are next to one another but have separate access paths off of Oceanfront Blvd. Take PCH to Marguerite and turn left if you're coming from Newport Coast. Marguerite dead ends onto Oceanfront. Turn right to visit Big Corona, and left to visit little Corona.

You will see the firepits as you enter the parking lot for Big Corona. The tidepools are located to the very right of the parking lot, over a grouping of rocks in a small area called China Cove. Not sure if it is still there, but at one time there was a magnificent house built into the cliff with a chinese roof... it was called China House and gave the cove its name.

I spent many a summer day at Big Corona... great memories!

Laguna Beach is going to be your best bet for tidepools in my eyes. Try the beach at Heisler Park (10min drive). There's metered parking at the top of the beach or you may be able to find free parking in the residential areas. As far as bonfires go I recommend the Aliso Niguel beach just 15 min from Heisler Park south down Pacific Coast Highway. As long as you get there before dark you can claim a pit and have a personal bonfire to yourselves. :] Remember to bring your own supplies!

The Pavilions market on Newport Coast Rd. is just up the hill from the villas and is quite big, any food item you could possibly need is found there plus a Starbucks, drycleaner, flim developing, and bank.
