Wondering what the best and most economical way to get groceries from Beach club villas. I want to go to the store myself, so online is a no go. Any within walking distance or are there shuttles? Will I have to rent a car?

Nothing in walking distance. Best bet is a cab or renting a car. You can rent from onsite at the Car Care Center (MK lot) and they will pick you up or there is a rental counter in either the Swan or Dolphin (can't remember which one). They would be walking distance. There is a supermarket at Crossroads, but they are expensive and have a rather limited selection. You are best going to Publix or the Super Walmart.

Depending on what you want to get there is a Hess station across the road from the Boardwalk. Not a grocery store but it carries a lot of staple items and it is within walking distance.

There isn't any chance you'll be using a towncar service, rather than DME, to get to your hotel, is there? When we stayed at the Swan, we didn't have the option to use DME, so we went with Tiffany. They allowed for a 30-minute grocery stop at the Publix on ... Vineland, I think. We were able to stock up with enough groceries to last the week, with the exception of milk, which we kept in stock thanks to the Screen Door General Store @ Boardwalk.

I wonder which is the more economical option: using a towncar service rather than DME, or renting a car for the day? Might be worth a quick research...?

I doubt a town car is less than the 40-50 to rent a car for the day. OP you might want to hit the disney outlet while you have the car.

You can always take a taxi. Pick one up at the Beach Club, have them drop you off, and then you can call them for a ride back. They don't have to wait for you and run up the meter. If you don't want to go anywhere else that day that requires a car, it may be a better and cheaper option.

Yeah, you're right ... although with one-way transportation at $60 (for Tiffany), that's close enough I'd still consider it an option ... I'd rather get the shopping over with ASAP and then head to the parks. :) But that's just my personal preference! If the OP wants to be out and about for a while, though, def. stick with the rental.

We always have groceries delivered from Garden Grocer. I don't find that their prices are all that much more than the grocery stores, you can pick the time to have them deliver, and they can even leave your stuff with Bell Services if you want. So much easier for us! :thumbsup2

We usually go to Winn Dixie on Apopka Vineland. It's not far from the DTD hotels.

We've had WeGoShop deliver groceries, and have been very pleased. My DH is super picky about food, and won't eat something that's not exactly what he wants, so I was worried a grocery delivery service would inadvertently bring a different brand or not exactly the right variety, but they've gotten it 100% right all three times we've used them. They even did a great job picking out mushrooms and tomatoes to my DH's exacting standards.

I'm bringing it up as an option in case your car rental price ends up being too high to justify. Their charges start at $18 for up to $50 worth of groceries, and go up by $5 increments for every additional $100 worth of groceries. The actual cost for the groceries is whatever the store charges - and you can pick the store.

if you do not rent a car to go take the DTD bus and get off last stop and then take a cab it is not that far one way and if you do not get too much you can do the same thing on the return ,

if not rent a car for a day and winn dixie or wal-mart are my favorites for prices wise cheaper then goodings and publix to me

Call a cab from the DTD marketplace and take it to the Winn Dixie on 535,Hotel Plaza Blvd to 535, make a left and it's about a half mile away on the right. The Goodings is closer just on the other side of Hotel Plaza blvd crossing 535 but the store is not worth going into it.I went into a Goodings for the first time about 20 years ago when they had several stores, back then it was expensive but at least it was pretty nice,I went into that one by DTD (last one left open) a few months ago and the shelves were half empty, store had dim lighting like they were trying to save on power and the carpets looked like they needed to be replaced about 5 years ago,on top of that it's still more expensive than any other grocery store.
