I'll be flying in from another state and have food allergies and want to take some things into the park (fresh fruit etc.) for snacks. Where can they be bought near DL...we may or may not have a car rental....is there anyone who will deliver groceries???Thanks!

Von's and Albertson's are nearby and will deliver. vons.com (if your state has a Safeway, it's the same company) and albertsons.com. I believe that both have a $50 minimum order.

FYI, they have lovely fruit for sale all over inside the parks...it's expensive and not organic, but it's there!

We have food allergies too, so we bring some of our own food and have some delivered. We have used Albertsons on our last trip and they do not have a minimum order amount. They were great and we will use them again next time.:)

That is good to hear! Von's did not deliver on Sat. or Sun. after 4 p.m. so we are looking to place an order at Albertson's as well for next weekend.

We had Albertson’s deliver groceries for our last trip. Ordered on line. You’ll need to have the full address of your hotel/motel. On Albertson’s site you first enter the zip code. This will bring up items that you pick from. When you check out, the site will ask for billing and delivery info. At that time you will also pick a delivery date and time. Our hotel’s bell services took in the delivery then called us when they had the groceries. Check with your hotel to see if you need to be in your room when the delivery is made. Even when we included the delivery charge ($9.95) and tips it was well worth it. A twelve pack of bottled water was on sale for $2.50 during our stay. Shoot that’s equates to one bottle in the parks! !

AJA55, I totally agree with you that just the savings for water alone is worth it. We ordered other things too, but since we were there for 6 days, we ordered a case of 24 bottles ($5.99). Even with the $10 delivery fee, we saved a ton of money. Did you have to sign for the delivery at the bell desk or did they leave the groceries there for you? My hotel let them come right to my room and I signed for them there. (Albertsons said I had to sign for them upon delivery). Just wondering in case I stay at a different hotel next time. :)

Yes, we really liked dealing with Albertsons. I hope it works out for you too......Have a great trip! :)

I would like to know if the bell desk at DLH can take the albertson's order......anyone?

The DLH took our order from Von's, so I would assume the same would hold true for Albertson's. They even brought it up to our room for us when we called them.

Sorry about getting back so late to you all.

OK this is what happened to us. We stayed at the Grand Californian. When we checked-in the front desk told us to inform Bell Services that we were expecting a grocery delivery. I asked Bell Serv if we needed to be in our room to sign for the delivery and also told them that there was going to be items that needed refrigeration. They assured us that we didn’t need to be in our room and that every thing would fine with the cold stuff. Quite frankly we made the time of delivery around check in time. We were going during a busy time of the year and assumed that we wouldn’t be able to get into our room until check-in time or a bit after. Well we couldn’t check-in until a little after the official time. We found our room, checked it out, unpacked and then called Bell Serv to let them know we were in our room and waiting for a delivery. About 30 minutes later they called to tell us they were on their way to our room. And as an aside to people who enjoy adult beverages we did order some. I simply had to state on the web while checking out that I was of age. If anyone has any other questions…post away and I’ll try to answer.

Thanks a ton for the information. We should be in the room but if lunch runs late then I wanted to make sure the order would be okay for a few minutes until we got back. I also wanted to verify that the deliverer would leave the order with the bell desk.

So, did Albertsons ask anyone to sign for it? They told me I had to be there to sign for it, but it wasn't a problem as we were going to be in the room anyway. Thanks for the info. It's good to know that Albertsons will leave the order at the bell desk. :)

You're very welcome! And if I remember right, you are a vegetarian like us? :) Albertsons has a good variety of organic/vegetarian foods like "Amy's" brand. We bought the burritos and put them in the little freezer compartment in our mini- fridge. That way I knew my ds (who has allergies) would have familiar (and good for him!) food items while we were at the park. How's weather down near Tacoma? I am about 50 miles north of Seattle......cold here, but no rain, thank goodness!:)

Yep we're veggie too. I like safeway better, because we use so many of their O Organics brand items, but the minimum order bugs me, and both times we've been to DLR for a stay, the minimum has talked me out of it. And then we go to b'fast and DS can't have their "syrup" (can't have corn syrup of any kind), and I forgot again that it's the organic real maple syrup I meant to get him, and I feel bad.

The weather has been nasty-cold the last few days. Biting. Probably similiar up where you are!

We bring our own maple syrup for ds.....the real kind like you mentioned.:) I put it in a small plastic container like a travel size one and that way he can have syrup on his waffles when we go to Goofy's. Except the last time for his birthday there, I forgot the syrup and I felt bad too. I have a question for you about Vons/Safeway. I tried to register on their site but the first thing it asked me was my address. Since I wasn't within their delivery area here at home, it wouldn't let me go any further. Did you use your home address initially or put in the hotel's addy right away?

For delivery address I'd put the hotel's address. Later it will throw a billing address at ya. The initial address is so that they can pull, I believe, from the correct stock at the warehouse local to the delivery area (I do not think they come straight from a store, but from a warehouse), so that's delivery address, I believe.

It's good to know someone else has to do the syrup thing. Right now it doesn't seem to be an overall corn problem, so he goes with powdered sugar on pancakes and waffles if he has to (some?all? powdered sugar has corn starch in it, just in case anyone wonders), and he likes it, but syrup is just so fun. Luckily he doesn't like who he becomes when he has corn syrup either, so all it takes is letting him know why he can't have something and he's good.

We will appreciate all the help from the forum in the planning stage...we have one vegetarian and 2 who would love to be..soy is not our friend nor is dairy so it makes it much more difficult...anywayTHANKS!!

curious-how do you manage to cook the burritos and such? are there public microwaves in the parks or any of the disney hotels?

We stayed off site at the Carousel Inn. They have microwaves in every room, along with a small fridge/freezer so it worked out great for us. We have never stayed in any of the DLR hotels, so I'm not sure about the accessibility of microwaves there. (Hopefully someone else can help you out with that). We are going to stay at Hojo's the next time. They are in the process of putting microwaves in all their premium rooms. :)
