Grocery store vent!

Not every place has correls to return it to. In those cases, I try to put the cart up on a curb so it doesn't roll. I have a nice scratch on my car from a cart as well.

Well, it wasn't me!! No matter what, I always return mine as well. I'd love to just leave it there when it's raining, but I'd never do that to anyone.

I don't shop there, but I remember once going into an Aldi's (spelling?) in the next town over one time where you had to pay the $0.25 to get a cart and you got the money back when you returned it. I loved it and wish all stores would have it. IMO, getting back a quarter could save thousands of dollars in automobile damage AND help the employees of the store.

I didn't realize there was another thread, but I am sorry, I don't see how there can be any excuse to leave a cart where it can roll into someone's vehicle. I am sure those same people would not be happy if it happened to them.

MoniqueU, I do grab the carts I see sitting out in the open when I have my son with me too, it is easier, but around here, none of our grocery parking lots have curb stops to put them between. They are just left in the open where the slightest bit of wind sends them on their way.

Oh hey, I enjoy these threads! I just wanted to prepare you for the excuses some come up with. The thread I was talking about was a long while ago. Gets things rolling around here! LOL~

Those "cart people" aren't really paid to get carts. They are supposed to be bagging your groceries but as long as there are people in this world who think they are above common courtesy and don't give a rats butt about other peoples property we'll have to wait longer in lines while the courtesy clerks are out there getting carts instead of bagging groceries.

My name is va32h, and I have failed to return a shopping cart to the corral.
More than once, in fact.

The cart corral was on the other end of the parking lot, and I had all three of my children with me (as I usually do). I did put the cart up on the grassy median, so it would not roll away, however.

If my parking space is not close to the cart corral, there is just no way I am going to leave my children unattended in the van to take the cart back.

And no, I am not going to take them out of the van and risk having them run over in the parking lot, just to take the cart back.

I have plenty of scratches and dents on my one-year-old minivan, and I would rather have those than have anything happen to one of my children. Or yours, for that matter.

Agreed. I work at a Super Target so we have lots of carts around all the time. I've had a few times when I've closed and we've all had to go out and help with the carts. And of course, it was always super cold days. haha.

That quarter thing is a super good idea. I'm liking it.

Oh and also, I think it's so sad when people leave a cart RIGHT next to the cart thingy. Like okay, you can't just put it in with the others? Geez. Lazy.

oh my goodness, you have to pay to use a cart!

Good grief!!! What if you don't have any cash/coins? Do they have change for a dollar?

Yep, and its the best thing they could of done. I got tired of all the dings in my car. You get used to it and always keep a .25 in your car.

I have 2 kids 1 and under and I just make sure I park near one of the cart returns to make it easier.

If it's that much of a problem for you, why don't you park your vehicle beside the corral (if that's what we're calling it, I've never heard it termed this before)? Then, you wouldn't have to worry about returning it, or your children.

Like I posted earlier, I saw a lady knocked, ran over by a cart. The wind was blowing about 40mph that day. They actually had to call an ambulance. So, it is a safety issue as well. For my kids and yours.

The day after a hurricane here, I watched a cart roll across a parking lot until it hit a light pole. It really doesn't have much to do with this conversation, but it was a really strange thing to watch. Luckily it did not hit anyones vehicle.

Well, I only have two kids, but I always managed to safely walk them to the corral with me and back to the car so I could return it to where it belonged.

If you scratch someone's car, do you make sure to stick around and let them know you're the one responsible?

:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: I would be embarrassed to drive a 1 year old vehicle with plenty of scratches and dents. :sad2: :sad2:

I always return my cart. I park far away too just becuase their are so many people who refuse to return them. Too many times I have seen the fleeting shopping carts run right into cars. Not to mention, I have great appreciation for the clerks that go out in the snow, rain, or freezing late nights corralling the run aways. I personally think its just safer and makes the shopping areas look better organized. Then again, this is the Rhode Island, its not shopping 'carts' its 'carriages'.

We were at Wal Mart a few weeks ago and saw people just abandoning carts all over the parking lot, as we went in. And Wal Mart here has TONS of corral options. It drives DH nuts--he hates WM anyway, and cart abandoners especially...so immediately went to about Defcon 2.

I parked 2 parking places over from a corral but when we came out, this woman next to us just abandoned her cart right up on my car instead of in the corral, and was skulking away. DH walked up to her and grabbed the cart and said "Good God, lady, it's just another 5 feet!" She just gaped at him. I was embarassed but her cart was touching my car. No excuse for her, the cart corral was RIGHT THERE and yes, she was by herself. Just lazy and thoughtless. :furious:

You must be kidding? I do hope you are referring to something other then car bumpers. If I ever caught anyone securing their cart near my bumper I am going to securely wedge it up their rear end.
OMG not car bumpers. Here where I shop we have things that the wheels of your car hit before going into the other car. People often leave their carts in between those. There is one on each side of the aisle. Once your carts are between the two bumpers they aren't likely to roll into other peoples cars. Also people will secure them in the tree planters. No big deal.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. I don't think there is any excuse for not returning your cart.

If I return it...I think it may put somebody out of a job :(

That is why if I change my mind about a product -- I just stick it back on any old shelf instead of taking it back where I found it ---- I figure I'd be putting someone out of a job --- I just want to do my part to help the economy :goodvibes

Seriously - I do return my cart and if I see a loose one on my way into the store - I'll grab it and take it with me.
