Grocery store madness

LOL

Okay Oklahoma usually gets a few, like 2 or 3 ice or snow days a year. We panic, we shut down then it warms up and we go merrily about our way. This year we have had weeks of snow, I mean really tornados, no big whoop, but a little frozen water and we are planning for the apocalypse. So everytime they announce everyone goes and "stocks" up.

Me, we buy milk and I've been emptiying out my freezer and cupboards. Nice little break from work and cleaning out the pantry to boot. Bring on the snow.:rotfl:

And why does everyone need to buy milk, bread and eggs??? Does everyone want to make french toast when it snows?

:lmao: My DW says the same thing about the crazy shoppers here in south-central PA.

So ... I am planning to make French toast, tomorrow morning!! Yum!! :thumbsup2

When MA had a big snowstorm in December I was shopping for my sister. My nephew was sick and she couldn't leave the house.

I got the biggest laugh when an older gentleman offered me the carriage he had just emptied and said sarcastically "There are none inside. You know it is going to snow!". I got the idea he was not impressed with the madness.

My husband went to the store yesterday because we were running low on essentials. Beer, chips and dip. :thumbsup2
My DH just called me from the store "okay, I got you more tositos and salsa. Picked up ice cream for DD. Do we need anything else?" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And why does everyone need to buy milk, bread and eggs??? Does everyone want to make french toast when it snows?

:rotfl: That is too good!

Last night I joked with my husband that if you have to buy toilet paper to get through a 6-8 inch storm, shouldn't you have bought toilet paper a little earlier?

Then, this morning I was telling my husband about a dream I had that the end of the world was happening in Indianapolis, I was trying to fill up any containers we had with water so that we would have fresh water before the supply was contaminated or pipes broke. After I finished he said, "See, maybe you shouldn't make fun of people for stocking up before a storm!" I learned my lesson!

First off: I think it is ALWAYS good to be prepared for almost anything. With certain natural events, you can plan for. It is funny that people will wait until the last minute to get supplies.

What is worse, we had a snow event here in Southest Virginia last week. There were idiots who didn't think it would do anything, then decided to go out and get stuff when there was ice on the road. Got suv? Doesn't matter on black ice you idiot.

Most times, we don't get snow, but every few years, we get a good one. But it doesn't have to be snow. In November, we had a Nor'Easter, I had no power for almost 4 days, it was all good, I have a generator plenty of gas, a grill, etc.

Yeah, I work at Giant Eagle (grocery store for those of you not in PA or Ohio) and it looked like Christmas Eve again today. The lines were just insane the whole day.

I work for Safeway and I thought the same thing at work today. Thankfully it let up a little bit when it was time for me to get off at noon. Kudos to my boss for making sure I left on time.

I'll forego the grocery store and use this as an opportunity to FORCE my family to clean out my freezer and pantry. I have one of those food stockpiles where the family opens the pantry and grumbles "there's nothing to eat" even as food tumbles down on their head!

The thing that stinks is that I actually DO need bread and milk.

I just got back. The grocery store wasn't near as bad as Trader Joes.

At 60 years old, I have been through too many storms (some totally unexpected that resulted in being snowbound for days at a time) to leave myself in the position of being unprepared.. I can remember at least 2 storms in the past 10 years where no vehicles were allowed on the roads for days on end - with the exception of emergency vehicles - and even if you could get out, with the power outtages, the stores and gas stations were closed.. And of course it doesn't help matters any that the entire time I was growing up my mother brain washed me with the motto: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.." LOL..

So - for me "prepared" is coffee, sugar, evaporated milk, regular milk, bread, (peanut butter and jam - if I don't already have it on hand), maybe some cookies or chips, and most importantly, toilet paper..;)

I never got into the whole "egg" thing.. Not really sure what people do with them.. LOL.. As long as I have my coffee - I can have PBJ sandwiches with a glass of milk - and I have TP, I can last for a long, long time..;)

I went to the store on the way home from the gym tonight and it was actually quieter than usual. I was surprised, but it had been steadily snowing for a few hours by that point so I guess everyone was all hunkered down already.
