Just confirmed our car today and asked if he knew which grocery store we would be stopping at. He said pubix. Can anyone give me an idea about this store - we only have 30 minutes so I want to be as prepared as I can be.

For those of you who usually stop = please offer any tips on things we should buy - we won't have a fridge but plan to buy a stery cooler.

Thanks
Helen

I'm not familiar with the Publix in Florida, but I shop at our local Publix all the time. It is a standard big chain grocery store. Prices are comparable to most.
If there is anything specific you would like to know, I'll try to answer.

We have gone to disney many times but this was the first time we had a town car and a grocery stop,
I would do it again if we did not have are own car.
We stopped a the Pulix I found there prices a lilltle higher then no frills were i usally shop.
Things we bought at the Pulix
Bottled water 2- 12 packs for 3 people
Cheese strings ,Fruit
Juice boxes ,milk
cream cheese and bagels
Things from home
granole bars( I found these more costly at the pulix)
Fruit snacks (disney themed) cereal
Cup a soup, pringles,
We had a small cloth sided cooler with us and ziplock bags,we filled the bags from the ice machine.
Another note you cant buy gum in the park so bring some with you.
And another thing I added to my list was a basket of some sort to put fruit in .
The stop was worth it just for the water and the fruit.

We shopped at Publix. The one we went to is huge. We bought a big case of bottled water, lots of fruit (the oranges were more expensive than what I had paid in Ontario the previous week), crackers (kids love the coloured goldfish crackers - can't buy them in Canada), yogurts, bread, cheese, cold cuts, my hubby likes the Hacker Pschor (SPELLING?????) beer from Germany, great key lime pie, and the list goes on. I just love the huge selection in the US grocery stores, and looking at all the food, and the selection of fat free food! If you don't have a fridge it would be more restricted I guess, but we liked Publix. There were two of them close by our timeshare. The water is a must though. We went through the cases no problem. Keep hydrated.

Hi  We use to always shop at Publix when we went to Florida. But with a Super Walmart around the corner forget it. Thier super Walmarts are great. You already know what the prices of Walmart are like well with a whole grocery store in them too. I can't waite to get down to the sunshine :sunny:

Thanks everyone - I also shop at nofrills - maybe i will get a few things to take with me - maybe i will have my husband ship some of the stuff?

We had those coloured gold fish awhile back - the kids loved them.

elismom - Did your cooler keep the cheese strings cool enough or did you have a fridge?

We didnt have a fridge.
The cooler was fine.We changed the ice In the morning before we left to the park and when we came home at night. We did take a lot of stuff with us ,but I took every thing out of the boxes and put them in ziplock bags in the suitcase.
The cheese strings I just put right in a ziplock with ice in it,they are sealed so they were o.k
It also keep the water cold enought for us.
If you like Tuna,we also bought some of the small tins with crackers with us.
Then when we came home the space the we had used for the food was the space we used for the things we bought.
What resort are you staying at?

WE are staying at POP - I wasn't sure about Tuna - I wasn't sure if a tin of food was considered "meat" which I understand is not allowed to cross the border.

I am pretty sure we are getting a stroller each day we are at a park - if that is the case then I will bring a small cooler - softside for snacks and put it in the back of the stroller.

We did the same thing in May, grocery stop then Pop. The publix we stopped at was actually quite small, not what I had expected, but it helped us to stay within the 30 minute time frame. We bought a styrofoam cooler and filled it with fruit and beer! We also purchased crackers and cheese in a can (it's a must when we are in the states, don't like cheez whiz at home, but love the cheese in a can!) for snack time, pretzels, cereal bars and breakfast type snacks from the bakery (e.g. donuts/cookies).

Make sure you bring ziplocs great for storing and a plastic bowl or two for serving.
