Is it harder or easier now that you are on an eating plan?

I'm on Atkins, and it's definitely harder. I dash through the bakery section with blinders on, although sometimes I stop and take a deep breath and smell all of the wonderful baked goods. I'm not craving anything, but being there surrounded by sugary snacks is difficult.

On the plus side, even my 9 year old DS is checking labels for carbs. My family is being very supportive.

I have started to TRY to only buy all natural products. I have tried to completely eliminate ALL hydrogenated oils from the products that we eat. Second I have tried to elimante most artificial and chemical ingredients from our products.

It's really hard sometimes when almost everything includes hydrogenated oils. Tortillas are hard to find sometimes, but I did find some at our Whole Foods store that are organic/all natural. There are only about 3 or 4 ingredients in them. The bad thing is that there are 3 points in each one. While in Vegas I did get to try the LaTortilla Factory ones, there are chemicals in that one but no hydrogenated oils. These are 1 point each. I think I still prefer the others as they taste much better in a quesadilla. Sometimes I think that it is good to spend more points on a food item if it tastes better. I am still trying to find all natural/non hydrogenated taco shells (Crunchy). I have to look at whole foods again, because I keep forgetting.

It also takes me longer to shop because I have to check points of things and whats in them. But I think it's totally worth it to be healthier.

I think it's much easier, and less expensive. I shop the perimeter of the store, so it's quick, then scoot on up the health food aisle, then I'm out the door.

I do the big food shopping biweekly just like always. And thats when I walk the entire store, all the aisles.

In btwn (every 4days or so) Im back in the store restocking my fruits and veggies.

Shopping isn't difficult for me but I have no reason to tour through the bakery section.

Lucky for me my husband also eats the Atkins way so all of the shopping is Atkins friendly, I stick to the produce, dairy and meat areas. Works great :)

I chuckled to myself last night over this, too. I lugged two bags of groceries home (I walk everywhere here in Japan...no car), and when I got home, all I did was open the crisper drawer of the refrigerator to unload them. All fruits and veggies! It felt good to not unload curry noodles or fatty meats.

I'm fortunate here. While the bakery is in the front of the store, it has a separate entrance, so I don't have to go in and be tempted if I don't want to.

The only thing differently about how I shop is that I buy much less and therefore save a lot of money. My eating plan is such that no foods are off-limits so the TYPE of food I'm buying hasn't changed.....I just eat less of it. :)
It's amazing how much money I'm saving!!!

Harder trying to figure out what I can and cannot eat! And still buy for the kids!
